Bart Simpson - Secret Agent, Man is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #18.

Synopsis

Bart becomes a spy. His mission is to find who in Springfield makes macguffium, a highly volatile element, and he gets an unexpected sidekick, Lisa.

Plot

Part One

At school, Bart pulls off a chemistry-based prank and causes a massive explosion at the school, with the smoke spelling out "El Barto Striks Again". As it was being set off, Bart was in the playground opening Radioactive Man trading cards with Wendell and Milhouse. Principal Skinner then drags him off to his office, ignoring Bart's protests. As Skinner is getting ready to punish Bart, he is shot by a tranquilizer dart. The dart was shot from Agent K, a secret agent who had come to recruit Bart. Agent K then knocks out Bart too to take him to her headquarters, the Junior Undercover Missions Program.

At J.U.M.P., the leader, S, introduces himself to Bart. He explains that they have been watching him for a while because of his set of skills, including stealth, creativity, command of nature, stamina, and his underhanded resourcefulness. Agent K and S then explain what they want Bart to do, to find out who is making the volatile element macguffium in Springfield, and stop them. In return, Bart will have his chemistry prank expunged from his permanent record. Bart agrees to these terms and is then given some gadgets by F, the scientist who works for J.U.M.P., including glasses that can see the blue glow from macguffium. Bart then leaves to go on his mission.

The first thing that Bart does on his mission is go to the Kwik-E-Mart for a drink. He orders a cherry squishee, shaken, not stirred. As he's getting his drink, Bart notices a strange figure in an overcoat, with a blue trail following him. Bart chases the person out of the Kwik-E-Mart and around the block until he bumps into him, revealing the person to be Moleman. Moleman tells Bart that a strange figure put the coat on him. Bart takes the coat from Moleman and finds a trading card inside, which was what the blue glow was coming from. Bart takes the trading card to Comic Book Guy, who identifies the symbol on the card from the comic Tales from the Texas Oil Fields. Comic Book Guy then goes into the back room and uses the phone. Bart listens in and finds that Comic Book Guy is calling Shauna Tifton, aka Princess Kashmir.

Bart goes to see Princess Kashmir and finds that she has a tattoo of the same symbol that was on the trading card. When Bart asks about it, Princess Kashmir says that a strange man put it on her. Princess Kashmir then reveals that she no longer works as a stripper and is now a realtor. As Bart leaves Princess Kashmir, he finds blue footprints leading towards the Springfield Gorge. Bart follows the footprints only to be attacked by Groundskeeper Willie, who knocks him over the edge of the gorge. Bart grabs hold of a vine but Willie comes back with some clippers and cuts the vine, sending Bart plummeting down.

Part Two

As Bart is plummeting to his death, Lisa flies in with a jet pack and saves him. Lisa tells Bart that since he didn't come home after school the previous day, she went to find what happened. Lisa checked Principal Skinner's office and found the blow dart and traced it back to J.U.M.P. Upon confronting J.U.M.P., Lisa was offered a job as an agent too. Her first mission was to assist Bart in his mission. Bart is reluctant to accept Lisa's help but they work together anyway. They follow the trail to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant and put on radiation suits to sneak into the power plant undetected. They get to the room where Mr. Burns is making the macguffium. However, they also find that Agent K is there, working with them. As they are listening in, the agents are captured by Burns, Smithers and Agent K, who were also behind them. Smithers explains that what they were watching was an audio-animatronic show, with the music composed by him. Agent K then knocks out Bart and Lisa with the tranquilizer darts.

Bart and Lisa wake up hanging above a vat of nuclear waste. Burns, Smithers, and Agent K walk away, without Burns revealing his plan. However, Smithers comes back and tells them that Burns does have a plan and it involves the giant magnet near them. Bart flings his shoe off to activate the magnet and Bart and Lisa get pulled towards it because Bart had a steel foil trading card on him. The power plant starts to explode, which Bart and Lisa quickly figure out is because of Homer screwing up at work again. Bart and Lisa escape the power plant as it explodes, avoiding capture once again.

When Bart and Lisa return to J.U.M.P., S congratulates them for completing their job. As Bart is about to leave, he tells S that he has one more question, and asks S what the S stands for. Bart then pulls off S's mask and reveals that he is Principal Skinner. Bart explains to Skinner that he knew it was him from his shoes, since he has performed so many pranks involving Skinner's shoes. Skinner then reveals that Agent K was also Mrs. Krabappel, which disgusted Bart as he found Agent K hot. Skinner and Krabappel then reveal to Bart that the secret agent act was all part of a new school program that was intended to redirect an underachiever's mischief in a positive direction. Lisa also reveals that she was the student liaison for the program. Bart, who was annoyed at being tricked like that, took the macguffium and used it to perform another chemistry prank at the school, this time making the smoke spell out "The End?"
