- Matt Groening appears at the comic book convention as the creator of Futurama.
- At the comic book convention several characters appear dressed up in costumes including, Captain America, George Jetson, Chewbacca, Robin Hood, Spiderman, and more.
- There are several lines where characters speak in the Star Trek language, Klingon. Whether or not the actors spoke the real Klingon Language or just spoke gibberish is unknown.
- While trying to woo Ms. Krabappel, the choir sings a parody of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight".
- Bart imagines Principal Skinner as Big Mouth Billy Bass.

- In the promotional image, Matt Groening has grey hair. However, his hair is brown in the episode.
- In the episode guide, Simpsons World The Ultimate Episode Guide: Seasons 1-20, the airdate for this episode is listed as April 18, 2008, rather than April 18, 2004. This is the only broadcast date error in the book.
- The second time at Moe's Tavern after breaking Ms. Krabappel's heart, Principal Skinner says "Bart was right, I'am a wiener." which is a reference to a scene from the season 1 "Bart The Genius" where Bart does a graffiti paint with Skinner saying "I'am a wiener".
