The fifth content update, known as the Thanksgiving content update, for The Simpsons: Tapped Out was released officially on November 8, 2013. This update removed the Halloween features from the game and changed the Halloween rewards for characters and buildings to cash and XP.
Information about this update was revealed on a Facebook account for a Tapped Out fansite. Information on what was included in the game's raw files was posted, which included a new outfit for Homer - Ninja Homer, which was made available around five months later during the Whacking Day content update.
An EA Forums user, "Teasdale x", a day later, posted information about five balloons appearing in the game after installing the previous update. The user reportedly placed the balloons in his/her game, causing the game to crash and the ability to purchase the balloons to disappear. Another user, "CanadaX21" had also bought the balloons in his/her game; in his/her case he/she bought the balloons (for less than $500 in-game, reportedly), and once he/she exited the app and returned to it, the Halloween features had been reset. Also, Australian players reportedly were able to purchase all the balloons for cash, and did not have to spend donuts to acquire the Itchy and Snowball 2 balloons.
