Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the 1990 film Miller's Crossing.
- The opening scene with Flexulon fighting trolls is inspired by the film Fire and Ice by Ralph Bakshi.
- Homer was watching a trailer for the Revenge of the Nerds reboot, starring John Cena as Booger. As of the episode's air date, a reboot was in the works by Seth MacFarlane.
- Homer's console at work was filled with cleaning supplies and unsold Mr. Burns Funkos. A real Mr. Burns Funko Pop! was sold by Funko.
- When Homer can't get it up in bed, Marge says that it seems like his lightsaber doesn't want to go "shwoom". She then asks if he went "Han Solo" earlier, a reference to Star Wars.
- "Chicken Soup for the News" is a reference to Chicken Soup for the Soul, an American self-help, consumer goods and media company.
- Homer eats tubes of Pringles.
- The restaurant Brunchausen by Loxy is a reference to Munchausen by proxy.
- Later, Mayor Quimby refers to the restaurant as "poisoning everyone for attention," a defining characteristic of Munchausen by proxy.
- Swat Topic is a parody of the retail chain Hot Topic.
- The crossing guard montage scene is a parody of the opening of CSI: Miami. The theme song of the show, "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who, plays over it.
- One of the pictures of Mayor Quimby has him with the Hamburglar from McDonaldland. Another has him with Kim Jong-un.
- Homer has a "Thin Orange Line" Facebook page, a reference to the "thin blue line".
- The scene with the chair saying "Crossable" on is a parody of a scene from The Untouchables where the characters find "Touchable" written in blood next to the dead accountant.
- The six-way intersection is a reference to a similar six-way intersection in Beverly Hills.
- Other groups that show up at the intersection include ICE and the TSA.
- The intersection showdown was inspired by the end of the film Gangs of New York.
- "If I Had a Hammer" by Peter, Paul and Mary plays at the end of the episode.
- When Mayor Quimby refers to Homer's crossing guards as "orange shirts, harassing citizens with complete disregard for their civil rights" he is alluding to the Nazi paramilitary force known as the "brown shirts."
