- "Scary Tales Can Come True" is a reference to the opening line in the song "Young at Heart": "Fairy tales can come true".
- The followed Fairytale creatures make an appearance in "Scary Tales Can Come True":
- Rapunzel
- Troll from Three Billy Goats Gruff
- The Three Bears

Trivia
- In UK Channel 4 broadcasts, the TV at the end of the opening sequence has nothing on it.
- The tune the dolphins squeak to is the tune Bart and his army sung to in "Bart the General".
- Snorky's statement that Dolphins once lived on the land is actually true as early Cetaceas (Dolphins and Whales) had legs and lived like Crocodilians.
- This is the second Halloween episode in a row (third in all, if counting "Treehouse of Horror VII") with the third segment ending in the world doomed.
- Strangely, the only people who pulled out firearms were the police force, even though it has been shown that nearly everyone in Springfield carries at least one weapon.
