Synopsis[edit]

"Bart and Milhouse try to get superpowers from a radioactive ant, but Homer gets bitten instead. He starts working at the Lard Lad Donut Factory when he realizes that he knows more than anyone else about donuts."

Plot[edit]

Bart and Milhouse are reading comics in Bart's treehouse when Milhouse reads The Ant, a comic about a man who gains powers after being bitten by a radioactive ant. Upon reading this, the pair decide to gather up some ants and go to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant to try and get powers themselves. After many ant deaths, the pair get bitten by ants and end up with radiation poisoning instead of superpowers and get taken to hospital to recover. When the family tries to take Mr. Burns to court, Homer loses his job as he was the safety inspector.

As Homer clears his things out of the power plant, he discusses trying to find a new job with Lenny and Carl and decides that he wants to work at the donut factory. Homer is then bitten by a radioactive ant and decides that he needs to go to the factory immediately to get a job. Homer gets the job because he's so eager and immediately gets to work increasing production, leading to him getting promoted. Meanwhile, at hospital, Bart and Milhouse are visited by the EPA to take statements from them, leading to Burns getting hit by lawsuits and losing the power plant. As he leaves, he shuts down the plant, shutting off power to Springfield.

Despite the lack of power, Homer somehow manages to get his employees to finish making and delivering donuts on time. The owner, upon seeing this, decides to hand the factory over to Homer when he retires. Meanwhile, with power still being out, the Mayor of Shelbyville sells power to Springfield at twenty times the normal rate, meaning electricity bills go up all over town. Homer gets an idea to harness the energy from donuts to generate power, but Marge gets concerned over his increased intelligence and sends him to Dr. Hibbert. Hibbert thinks that Homer is perfectly fine until Homer manages to bring a pencil to his hand using his mind.

The people of Springfield discuss the energy problems before Homer comes into the room with plans to generate power using donuts. Everyone accepts his plan and Waylon Smithers gets a job as Homer's assistant. As Homer gets everything ready for the donut power plant, he falls unconscious from radiation poisoning due to the insect bite, which Dr. Hibbert hadn't noticed before. After Homer recovers, he loses his new intelligence and no longer knows how the new power plant works. Mr. Burns decides to sneak into the plant and sabotage it, causing it to break down and explode. Homer is then fired by the donut factory and given his old job back at the power plant. While he is upset at this, Homer becomes happy upon finding the car is covered in donut batter.
