He is best known as the [[Springfield|town's]] resident oddball, and has been immortalized for his non sequiturs and erratic behavior. The son of [[Springfield Police Department|Police]] [[Clancy Wiggum|Chief Clancy]] and [[Sarah Wiggum]], Ralph is a good-hearted and generally well-meaning boy who suffers from either severe learning and social disabilities, or some other form of childhood psychiatric disorder. The nature of his mentality is kept rather ambiguous, much like many of the signature traits of much of the show's cast. Like almost every other character in Springfield, he may not be quite as simple as he first seems, as evidenced by his hinted immense potential as a performer.

Ralph is quite an enigma of a child. Upon first glance, one might mistake him for a child with dementia; or perhaps they might even look at him as a mentally challenged child. What is definite however, is that he suffers from learning disabilities of some sort, as evidenced by his apparently slow grasp of things in the world around him, his difficulty in studying, and his sporadic speech impediments. His unique manner of speech is often the source of the character's trademark random quotes, where Ralph may make a comment such as "What's a battle?", "It tastes like...burning!", or "[[Ned Flanders|Mr. Flanders]], you're blindeded!," as well as his tendency to call his [[Elizabeth Hoover|teacher]] "School Mommy" and on one occasion calling [[Superintendent Chalmers]] "Super Nintendo Chalmers" However, Ralph is also able to speak in a normal manner much of the time, which only adds to the question of his condition and character. He also appears to have several talents. He is an incredible tap dancer and played the role of [[George Washington]] in the school play. As Washington, he not only recited his lines perfectly but also managed to play the role so well that he brought the audience to tears.

Personalized Talking Astrolabe.png

The Personalized Talking Astrolabe is a gold-plated astrolabe.

While out Christmas shopping at Springfield Heights Promenade, Homer spotted the Personalized Talking Astrolabe in the window of Things Unnecessary. Homer immediately became enamored with the object and went into the shop, where an employee showed it to him. However, he looked at the price tag of $500 and realized that if he bought it, he wouldn't have any money left to buy a Christmas tree for the family. The Astrolabe then told Homer that it was Margaret Cho's birthday, which Homer said was the birthday he always forgot. He then decided to buy the Astrolabe.

Due to buying the Astrolabe for himself, Homer had to take the family to get an awful tree in a bad part of town. The tree he purchased immediately caught fire and had to be extinguished. The family started realizing that something was wrong because they should have had enough money for a good tree. The Astrolabe, which Homer had wrapped up, then called out the time in Montreal and said that the moon was waxing that night. Homer tried to play it off as Maggie's first words, but Marge found the gift-wrapped Astrolabe and realized that Homer had wasted their money on something extravagant for himself. Lisa called Homer selfish, and the Astrolabe then told him it was not returnable and started a three-hour smoke alarm test...

Mr. McGrew's Christmas Carol is a seasonal cartoon starring a clumsy and selfish old man named Ebenezer McGrew.

In the film, Mr. McGrew told Bob Cratchett that he had to work on Christmas. However, McGrew was actually talking to his stovepipe oven, not realizing that Cratchett was behind him. McGrew then mistook the stovepipe oven for a pregnant woman and tried to listen to the baby's heartbeat, putting his head into the oven. Later, McGrew was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past, who told him he was so selfish that his fiancée was about to leave him. McGrew said he didn't need love because he had money.

Later in the film, Mr. McGrew pleaded with the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, asking for more time to reform his selfish ways. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come then pointed to McGrew's grave, and McGrew screamed out...
