Synopsis[edit]

"Bart embarks into the lawnmower business but when Cletus challenges him to a lawnmower contest, he trains to win."

Plot[edit]

Homer looks at Ned's perfectly mowed lawn, then complains that his lawn doesn't look like that. When Homer asks Ned how he got his lawn looking like that, Ned explains how Rod and Todd help to fertilize, feed and baby their lawn to make it look good. Homer takes the wrong message away from this and thinks that using children will make his lawn look good. Homer then bribes Bart by promising to buy him a crossbow if Bart takes over all the lawn work. Bart agrees to do so but quickly finds that it's hard work. However, their new next door neighbor, Oscar Willoughby, sees Bart mowing the lawn and offers to pay Bart to mow his lawn too. Bart agrees, but then pays Milhouse $10 to mow the lawn for him, whilst Mr. Willoughby gives him $50 for getting it done. Bart then starts advertising his lawn mowing business, getting Milhouse to do all the work whilst he gets more money.

One day, Lisa tells Bart and Milhouse that they should invest money into the business. So, Bart buys a Lawnmaster 9000 and then fires Milhouse so that he can use the ride-on lawnmower himself. Bart rides the lawnmower to school but Groundskeeper Willie isn't impressed with it as his lawn mower is bigger and better. Bart then goes through a training montage to get better with mowing lawns. Later, Cletus confronts Bart about Bart stealing business from him. Cletus then challenges Bart to the Grasscutters Open at the State Fair. If Cletus wins, Bart has to give all the business back to Cletus. Bat agrees to the bet and then begs Marge to let him take part. When Homer finds out that The Towels are playing at the State Fair, he agrees to let Bart take part.

The following weekend, the family goes to the Springfield Fairgrounds for the State Fair. Homer immediately starts going round the food stalls and then goes to the Try & Dunk Popo! stall. Homer finds out that Popo, the clown on the stall, had become nicer after getting over his anger issues from the previous year. When Popo expresses concern about Homer's weight, Homer tries to get into the cage to attack Popo. Meanwhile, Marge and Lisa try to find a ride for Lisa to go on, but all the rides are old and outdated. Homer then goes to The Towels concert, where he quickly gets bored then goes to watch Bart's lawn mower event.

Bart, Willie, Cletus, and the other entrants get ready for the event as Duffman commentates for it. When Homer finds out that the winner gets a year's supply of Duff Brewmeister's Micro-Brewed Gold, Homer gets excited for the competition. The event starts and Bart quickly finds himself in trouble. However, he gets Cletus and Willie to collide with each other, knocking them out of the race. Bart then crosses the finish line in first place and wins, but is then disqualified for being underage. Homer gets upset over losing the beer and Bart decides that Cletus can have his customers back as he'll just watch television instead.
