The Vast Waistband is a clothing store located at the Springfield Mall. It specializes in selling clothing for obese men.

History

Many of The Vast Waistband's customers find pants confining, so the store offers a range of clothing items for the ample gentleman, including ponchos, muumuus, capes, jumpsuits, unisheets, Muslim body rolls, and academic and judicial robes.

After Homer purposely gained weight so he could be put on disability and work from home, he visited the store and told the salesman he wanted something loose and billowly to be comfortable for his first day of working from home. The salesman told Homer what items the store carried, and Homer chose a muumuu because he didn't want to look like a weirdo.

Behind the laughter

  • The store's name is a pun on the pop-culture phrase "vast wasteland."
