The Radioactive Manqués! is a The Simpsons Summer Shindig comic story first printed in Simpsons Summer Shindig #6.

Plot[edit]

It's a typical day in Zenith City: a crime is committed and Radioactive Man arrests the thief, but the villain is arrested by not one, not two, but four Radioactive Men. It turns out to be a group of fans of Radioactive Man, called The Radioactive Manqués. The real Radioactive Man finds out what has happened, and he decides to talk with the fans who had dressed up as him. He warns them that crime-fighting is not kids' stuff, it can be really dangerous and they were lucky that it was only a common robber and not a super-villain. The next night, the Shiverer robs a bank in Zenith City. Shiverer has a new weapon, a gun that shoots ice and snow. The snow is so cold that it freezes Radioactive Man, and Shiverer escapes. Shiverer thinks he can ravage undisturbed, until the Radioactive Man fans decide to arrest him, and they succeed. Radioactive Man is getting better, but he is tired of his new fans. He is okay with fans starting clubs and websites, but not fans who want to be like him. The fans continue to make Zenith City a safer place: they rescue cats from trees and arrest adults who steal candy from kids, and their occurrences are reported by the media. Rod Runtledge sees the news and is envious of the fans, but Claude Kane III tells him he is better off as a sidekick to a superhero than he is as a superhero that doesn't even have superpowers.

Radioactive Man tries again to tell his fans that the super villains are dangerous, but they are not worried because they arrested the Shiverer. However, Radioactive Man tells them that he is not a super villain, and they've just been lucky because all the super villains are in prison right now. A couple of young people in Zenith City have started to become jealous of the Radioactive Man fans, and decide to become fans of Dr. Crab. After the Radioactive Man fans eat some hamburgers, they meet the new Dr. Crab fans, Dr. Crab's Crew. They start to fight, and the Dr. Crab fans end up winning. Just as Claude has accepted the fans, Rod tells him what happened: a few fans of Dr. Crab have whipped them. Radioactive Man has an idea how he can make sure they can beat the Dr. Crab fans.

The Dr. Crab fans are enjoying their victory over the Radioactive Man fans when they find an invitation to a party in honor of the Radioactive Fanboys at the home of Claude, which Fallout Boy "dropped", and they decide to go to the party. At the party, the Radioactive Man fans are outside, wondering if they should go in; they all accepted the inviation but they now understand that they are not heroes. Meanwhile, Dr. Crab's fans have come to the party and the two fan clubs begin to fight. This time, the Radioactive Man fans win the fight, then Radioactive Man comes to see what happened. Fallout Boy tells Radioactive Man that his fans have really got a boost in confidence and it's a good thing they do not know that he helped them. Radioactive Man tells Fallout Boy that he could not leave the party because Gloria Grand was there. Radioactive Man tells his fans that he has accepted them, and with a little help from him, they can do more positive things for the community.

The fans tell him that they got their superhero thing out of their system now; being superheroes was their lifelong dream and now they have accomplished their dream. They tell him they are going to form a rock band, and they give their superhero outfits to Radioactive Man, then walk away and tell him that he will probably find new fans soon. Fallout Boy tells him to look on the bright side: fans come and go but sidekicks are forever.
