Synopsis[edit]

"When his coffee shop is failing, Krusty looks into hosting poetry to bring in customers. However, a rivalry between Lisa and Martin could ruin the rejuvenated business."

Plot[edit]

At McBean's Coffee House, Mr. Burns shouts for help from Waylon Smithers as he had just drunken full caffeine coffee instead of the decaff he was supposed to have ordered. Krusty says that he can't tell the difference between regular and decaff as Burns and Smithers leave the café. Troy McClure then comes in with some flyers from around town of other coffee shops to come up with ideas on how to bring more business into their failing coffee house. They try karaoke and comedy nights, which both fail. When they land on allowing gambling in the coffee shop, it proves to be a success. However, they are then forced to stop due to the First Church of Springfield having a monopoly on gambling in the community.

At Springfield Elementary School the next day, the school library has been closed down due to the bullies using the card shuffler that Jimbo stole from McBean's to shuffle the library cards around. Martin and Lisa are forced to relocate their poetry club meeting to McBean's where the two of them argue and Martin leaves. When Krusty confronts Lisa about sending paying customers away, Lisa mentions how cafes used to be packed with poetry-loving patrons. Krusty and Lisa then decide to start having poetry nights at McBean's. The first night proves to be a huge success with the coffee house being packed. However, Lisa and Martin start to argue with each other through poetry. When their argument gets too much, and Martin suggests that the coffee is filtered through a toupee, Martin is thrown out of McBean's.

Martin goes to Moe's Tavern to drown his sorrows and inspires Moe to start having poetry nights in the bar too. This steals customers from McBean's which leads to Krusty trying to bring back customers by having Lisa dress as Mike Tyson when hosting the poetry night. Lisa refuses to do so and storms off to Moe's to confront Martin. As the two argue, a crowd forms and eventually the two of them agree to a poetry slam competition. This takes place at the Civic Center and the two of them argue through poetry once more. Martin's final poem compliments Lisa rather than insults her and the two of them make up and become friends again. Later, McBean's and Moe's team up to present Performance Art in the Park, which Krusty says will be the next big thing.
