- The title spoofs the name of the children's song "Pop Goes the Weasel".
- Bart's pop star title "Tori Missouri" is a parody of Hannah Montana from the Disney sitcom Hannah Montana.
- Bart says "Don't have a Cowell, man", referencing Simon Cowell.
- When Sherri is wearing the Malibu Stacy wig, she says that she feels like "one of the real L.A. housewives", a reference to The Real Housewives franchise.
- Bart sings "Jingle Bells" with the parody lyrics involving Batman and Robin from DC Comics.
- Baines tells Milhouse that Bart's career will end "Ashlee Simpson bad".
