Synopsis[edit]
- After Snake robs his dressing room at Channel 6, Kent Brockman steps up to do what the police won't and catch the criminal.
Plot[edit]
Channel 6 has just finished filming the Channel 6 All-Stars Halloween Super Variety Showcase for next Halloween. After stepping out of the stage room, he sees Raphael chasing after Snake Jailbird, who is carrying a sack. Brockman refuses to try and stop him since it isn't his job, and Snake gets away. A producer then runs up to Brockman and reveals that Snake robbed his dressing room, stealing the gold bars from his safe and even his lucky suit. As Brockman leaves Channel 6 Studios, Snake confronts Brockman and robs him, taking his wallet and car, leaving Brockman penniless. Soon, the police arrive but tell Brockman that there's nothing they can do as there has been a spike in unsolved crimes recently. They leave Kent, telling him not to stick around the alley after dark because it's dangerous there.
The next morning, Lisa comes by and finds Brockman sitting on the side of the road. Brockman tells Lisa what happened and appreciates her listening to him as she's a fellow "newsie". Lisa tells Brockman that she's just filling in for Milhouse on his paper round because Milhouse is visiting his nana, but Brockman tells her that what she's doing is noble. Lisa tells Brockman that he used to be a great investigative journalist and she thinks those talents are still within him. Brockman then finds Snake's library card lying on the ground and goes to track him down.
Kent Brockman bursts into the library and confronts the librarian. He finds a copy of Goldfinger by Ian Fleming and finds his stolen gold bars inside. Figuring out that the library is the front for a fencing racket, Brockman confronts Fat Tony and the Springfield Mafia. Lisa, Milhouse, Sherri, and Terri then arrive to back up Brockman. Brockman gives chase to Snake, who tries to get a gun from a copy of The Guns of Navarrone, but finds that it's just a normal book. Brockman catches up to him and beats him.
Later, Brockman reports the incident on Channel 6 News. On the program, he talks about one young lady who helped bring him back to his feet, before he tells the weather lady Mandy that he couldn't have done it without her and asks her out to dinner. Lisa storms out of the recording studio.
