piwik

The information under "Referrer Websites", "Search Engines" or "Keywords" gives "There is no data for this report" and "Feedburner statistics" has an error message. /AleWi 12:05, 8 January 2013 (EST)

Which website is this for? I checked out both Svenska and the English site, and both are showing data for those reports. The "Feedburner statistics" was just a sample module that has since been removed from Piwik. I've removed the link so you won't get the error any more. --Jake 11:51, 9 January 2013 (EST)
Both, for me. /AleWi 11:54, 9 January 2013 (EST)
There is never any data available any more. Clicking on any keyword or any referrer website returns "There is no data for this report." Also, the top keyword search is always "Keyword not defined" for some reason. There is an update for Piwik, whether that will help or not, I'm not sure. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 12:19, 9 January 2013 (EST)
Ok, so something is definitely going on here. I'm able to review those reports without any issues. If I may ask, which browsers are you two using and are you using any pop up or ad blockers? If you are using a pop up or ad blocker, I would try disabling it for simpsonswiki.net and seeing if that fixes the issue. I know my pop up blocker sometimes prevents javascript from functioning properly and that may be the case here. --Jake 22:03, 9 January 2013 (EST)
It not working for me in Chrome, Explorer and Firefox. I only have the pop up blocker that is included. /AleWi 23:51, 9 January 2013 (EST)
I use Firefox, the latest version. I have AdBlock plus installed but even having it disabled on simpsonswiki.net doesn't help. Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 03:43, 10 January 2013 (EST)
So just to make sure that we're all on the same page (literally), you're not seeing any results when viewing this page or this page? --Jake 20:21, 11 January 2013 (EST)
Huh, I can actually see them from that page. Just not the main page. That's weird... Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 03:16, 12 January 2013 (EST)
Just noticed that only the first page of the results on those pages work, not the other pages... SolarDragonName.png (Talk - Contribs.) 03:43, 12 January 2013 (EST)
Ok, I'm noticing similar problems as well. I'll go ahead and update Piwik to see if that helps. --Jake 11:52, 12 January 2013 (EST)
It seems to be working for me after updating Piwik. Is it working for you two now as well? --Jake 11:54, 12 January 2013 (EST)
Yep, seems to be working for me too now. Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 12:00, 12 January 2013 (EST)

Click to englarge.

Hi, this needs to be fixed. Thanks :) FatHomerTalk 12:54, 19 January 2013 (EST)

FatHomer, what page are you seeing this on? I can't see the same error. ☆The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.)☆ 13:25, 19 January 2013 (EST)
I seeing that error when the window is not full screen. Try to shrink the window and you see. /AleWi 13:46, 19 January 2013 (EST)
This happens for me as well. I'm on Google Chrome. --Fred (Talk Contribs. Editcount) 19:07, 19 January 2013 (EST)
Me too. It gets even worse the thinner you make the window. (All the other icons on the right jumble up as well.) --Nick97 (talk ~ contribs) 02:09, 20 January 2013 (EST)

Offline

Wikisimpsons has gone offline for two brief spells today, the first starting around 7pm, the second around 8pm. What happened? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 16:01, 12 February 2013 (EST)

It looked like it was just a normal service interruption due to an unexpected server issue. Whenever one of these occurs, please just send me an email at jake@simpsonswiki.net. It's the fastest and most reliable way to contact me, and I can usually have everything up and running again within a few minutes. --Jake 23:28, 12 February 2013 (EST)

Tumblr

We have an account on tumblr now, I have invite you. Can you create a cname for tumblr.simpsonswiki.net to domains.tumblr.com We not need to update our domain's nameservers. /AleWi 15:43, 14 February 2013 (EST)

I've submitted the update to the domain name registry. It should start working within a few hours. --Jake 16:38, 14 February 2013 (EST)

TOCU

Something's going wrong with the TOCU template. See the problem here. Do you know what the problem is? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 07:20, 27 May 2013 (EDT)

piwik

The piwik will not working since yesterday. No information is saved. /AleWi 15:28, 7 July 2013 (EDT)

I've been working on this since Solar Dragon told me about it yesterday. It should be working properly as of now and the stat tracking will be back to normal starting tomorrow. --Jake 19:56, 7 July 2013 (EDT)

Search

Whenever you search for something, no results come up. Example here. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 06:25, 13 July 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, that happens every once in a while after a server reboot. I usually fix it within a few hours, so no need to let me know when this happens. --Jake 11:47, 15 July 2013 (EDT)
The search function never works for me. FatHomerTalk 07:46, 25 July 2013 (EDT)

Template:E

I've already asked Solar about this, but he couldn't provide a solution so: for some reason, the template won't accept the characters "+" and "=". Is there a way to fix this? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 09:33, 15 August 2013 (EDT)

Jake, will you respond to this please? It's been nearly two weeks since I asked this. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 09:29, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
Sorry, must have missed this. As far as I know, there's no work around to this. It's just how the MediaWiki URL parser works. --Jake 22:02, 26 August 2013 (EDT)
Hmm, now I don't know what to do with the Comic strips template. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 07:39, 28 August 2013 (EDT)

Image problem

Hello there, Jake. There is problems with images on the wiki at the moment, likely affected by the server move... I have noticed that it seems to be affecting images with "special characters" (eg é, í, etc.).

Here is a list I have found with the problem: File:Andy García.jpg, File:Blue Öyster Cult.jpg, File:Georg Hólm.jpg, File:José Canseco.jpg, File:Jónsi.jpg, File:Louie Pérez.jpg, File:Markéta Irglová.jpg, File:Orri Páll Dýrason.jpg, File:Plácido Domingo.jpg, File:Sigur Rós.jpg, File:Tré Cool.jpg, and File:Zoë Ball.jpg

If I notice some more, which will be likely, I'll be sure to message you. --Fred (Talk Contribs. Editcount) 04:43, 16 August 2013 (EDT)

Strange bug with signing

Hi Jake, I've noticed a strange bug with signing recently. Sometimes when I type four tildes, it just adds the time and date and no signature. At first I thought this was just me adding a fifth but now I know otherwise after I made this talk page comment. That uses a template that also adds in the four tildes and signs automatically when substed. However, only the date has been added. I'm not sure whether this has only been happening after the server move or not. Can you look into it please? Thanks, Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 12:40, 23 August 2013 (EDT)

That's definitely strange behavior. It shouldn't be something new after the server move because none of the MediaWiki code was changed from before the move. The only change we've made is to add Cook879's SimpsonsFont extension. If this is a bug with MediaWiki, it should be resolved after we update to the latest version. Please let me know if this happens again. --Jake 10:26, 24 August 2013 (EDT)
So, I previewed a post and found the same thing happening so I am sure there were only four tildes. When I saved it, my actual signature appeared. Solar Dragon (Talk Contribs.) 11:43, 24 August 2013 (EDT)

DVD boxset art

I've already inquired Solar about this, but I thought I'd ask you as well. On my Simpsons distribution user page, I'd like, in the gallery, for when you click on (Alternate box art) in the caption, for the alternate box art to show up in the image frame-thing. Do you get what I mean? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 08:16, 28 August 2013 (EDT)

Hey Phinbart. This isn't really possible without a decent amount of Javascript or a MediaWiki extension. I've looked around to see if there are any extensions that enable this kind of behavior, and couldn't find any. I'm not great with Javascript, so I really wouldn't be the best person to ask about this either. If you can find an extension or Javascript code that would do this, send me an email and I'd be happy to look into it for you. --Jake 13:36, 28 August 2013 (EDT)

News namespace broke

Hi Jake, as you can see from Template:News, something seems broken. Can you fix it? You might also want to check the Dictionary namespace too. Thanks, The Solar Dragon 03:01, August 29, 2013 (EDT)

Yeah, I am seeing this too, dunno why it is like so though. :P --Fred (Talk Contribs. Editcount) 04:45, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
I can't think of any reason why this isn't working. The pages are still accessible if you go to them manually and it does not apply to the dictionary namespace too. I'm still looking into this. --Jake 09:37, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
Apparently they added 'news:' as a URL prefix in newer versions of MediaWiki. I've fixed this. --Jake 12:41, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
Ah, thanks. Now the only major issue is user pages... The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 12:57, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
Just wanted to note that these should now be resolved after removal of the SocialProfile extension. --Jake 22:19, September 2, 2013 (EDT)

CollapsibleBox

For some reason, the template is broke when I try it out on the Table template. Is there a fix or is there a way around this error? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 11:36, August 29, 2013 (EDT)

I'll look into it. May have something to do with the 'switch' directive extension not being updated. --Jake 09:40, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
Just also letting you know that the 'Who's Online' feature doesn't work. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 10:10, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
I've fixed the WhosOnline page. Still working on the CollapsibleBox template. --Jake 12:24, August 31, 2013 (EDT)
Thanks. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 14:58, August 31, 2013 (EDT)

Table and the Infobox

As you can see here, the second table is underneath the infobox. Is there a reason why this happens. Plus, any updates on the CollapsibleBox? ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 15:40, September 6, 2013 (EDT)

I'm not familiar with how the table template works on this site, and I don't see any reason why it's being pushed down. I'd ask Solar about it. And I don't have any more information on the CollapsibleBox yet. For now, I'd just avoid using it whenever possible. --Jake 16:18, September 7, 2013 (EDT)
The Table template has a clear=all at the end of it which is why the second table is clearing the infobox. The only way to fix this would be to add an option to make the clear=all optional. The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 17:22, September 7, 2013 (EDT)

File errors due to social profile being removed

So, I found this image is having some problems. If you look at the File Usage, you'll find that it links to a page :Radioactive Ape, which I'm guessing is actually supposed to me UserWiki:Radioactive Ape. Is this fixable? Thanks, The Solar Dragon (Talk - Contribs.) 17:22, September 7, 2013 (EDT)

This should be fixed now, thanks! --Jake 15:31, September 28, 2013 (EDT)

MultipleUpload

Just letting you know, MultipleUpload doesn't work. It just leaves a blank, white page. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 12:21, September 12, 2013 (EDT)

Sadly, that extension is no longer maintained with the latest versions of MediaWiki. --Jake 15:43, September 28, 2013 (EDT)

Spammers

We need to do something about these spammers, they've been hitting up for a few days now and our biggest attack was two nights ago. Last night's wasn't as bad. Jake, could you possible either place a world ban on their IP or have all new users enter an answer into a captcha in order to save their page? Thanks, ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 01:20, September 25, 2013 (EDT)

The spammers don't share a common IP, so we can't use that approach. Solar Dragon and I are currently discussing possible alternatives, and a captcha is among them. Another option would be to block users who are not autoconfirmed from adding external links. Please let me know if you have any other ideas, or if it gets really bad, send me an email and I can temporarily disable editing. Thanks! --Jake 10:22, September 25, 2013 (EDT)

Swedish Wikisimpsons

Hi, why hasn't the Swedish Wikisimpsons .com instead of .net as this wiki now have and why doesn't it share files with this wiki? Thanks! FatHomerTalk 16:24, November 16, 2013 (EST)

The time on the Swedish wiki also needs to be put on hour forward because of the winter time. Thanks again! FatHomerTalk 16:28, November 16, 2013 (EST)
Hey FatHomer. I've fixed the image issues. Thanks for letting me know. The reason the site is still using .net is because it hasn't yet been moved over to the new server. I've also told the wiki to adjust for summer time, but I'm not sure if it updated or not. --Jake 11:16, November 17, 2013 (EST)
Thanks for fixing the images but the time is still wrong. FatHomerTalk 16:08, November 17, 2013 (EST)

Piwik

Can't access Piwik - http://piwik.simpsonswiki.com/. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 09:36, December 15, 2013 (EST)

It's http://simpsonswiki.com/piwik/ --Jake 09:38, December 15, 2013 (EST)
Thanks, ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 09:40, December 15, 2013 (EST)

RTÉ Two

Image on RTÉ Two article not showing up properly. Displays error message. ~ Phinbart (talkcontribs) 09:50, December 22, 2013 (EST)

Images

Hi Jake, could you reupload the images from the Image problem section above and from the section above this, and File:Killer Toupée.png please? They are all having the glitch associated with foreign characters in the file name. Thanks, The Solar Dragon 05:46, January 12, 2014 (EST)

404

The 404 pages at the wiki has still links for the closed wikis. /AleWi (talk) 17:38, March 16, 2014 (EDT)

This has been resolved. Thanks. --Jake 17:50, March 18, 2014 (EDT)

Extension:MobileFrontend

You have update the Wiki to version 1.23. It it's possible to add Extension:MobileFrontend? /AleWi (talk) 16:52, January 12, 2015 (EST)

I've installed this. It works pretty well, except on the Main Page and some episode pages. We will probably have to follow these instructions to get everything working correctly. You can add ?useformat=mobile to the end of any Wikisimpsons page URL to force the server to render a mobile page for testing purposes. --Jake 23:45, January 12, 2015 (EST)

QuickLink

Hi Jake, since the upgrade, QuickLink no longer works. Is there anything you can do about that? If not, do you know of any similar extensions? Thanks, The Solar Dragon 03:41, January 13, 2015 (EST)

Another thing I noticed, the contents box at the top of a page stretches all the way across. Can this be fixed too? Thanks, The Solar Dragon 03:54, January 13, 2015 (EST)
Both of these issues should now be resolved. -Jake 14:34, January 13, 2015 (EST)
Except that it breaks the toolbar now. Working on that... -Jake 14:37, January 13, 2015 (EST)
Ok, it should all be working now. --Jake 14:51, January 13, 2015 (EST)

Special:WantedFiles

Hi Jake, there are a couple of wanted files that don't have any links to them. Could you remove them from the list using your magic please? Thanks, The Solar Dragon 15:50, January 13, 2015 (EST)

I've fixed this for you. Not sure what caused that problem to begin with. Thanks. --Jake 00:43, January 14, 2015 (EST)
I think this is the second or third time this has happened now. Never sure why it's happened. The Solar Dragon 04:38, January 14, 2015 (EST)

The "someone left a message in your talk page" notification

Hi Jake. Could it be possible to bring back the old notification message?(the one with the "clouds" background) Is it more noticeable. Thanks! / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 16:39, January 13, 2015 (EST)

That's actually a setting in preferences, under the 'Notifications' tab at the bottom. As far as I can tell, there is not a configuration option to turn it off for everyone. --Jake 23:58, January 13, 2015 (EST)
I meant that "little box" with the "simpsons clouds" background that appeared above the sitenotice when someone left a message in one's talk page. I miss it so much. / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 16:11, January 24, 2015 (EST)
I will see if there is anything I can do about this tomorrow. --Jake 22:58, January 31, 2015 (EST)
I've been investigating what could be done to bring back the old notification and I've found out that the responsible of the notification system change is a new Extension called "Echo". If you uninstalled it (if possible), would the notification system return to the "before-the-upgrade" style? / Loco87 (Talk / Contribs) 19:41, May 6, 2015 (EDT)
I've disabled Echo. You'll have to let me know how that affects the notification though. --Jake 14:10, May 7, 2015 (EDT)
It worked! (I edited my talk page with my bot yesterday to see if some things I tried worked). However, the box only appears with a (plain) blue background, not the "simpsons clouds" one, but that blue is better than Echo, so it's okay. / Loco87 (Talk / Contribs) 16:20, May 7, 2015 (EDT)
Glad to hear it worked. I'm sure we can easily get the clouds back with some CSS, so that isn't an issue. --Jake 16:53, May 7, 2015 (EDT)

Countdown

Hi Jake, I've noticed that the countdowns in the sitenotice and anonnotice have disappeared. Can this be related to the MediaWiki upgrade?? / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 12:38, January 16, 2015 (EST)

Not that I'm aware of. The countdown system looks like it was implemented in MediaWiki:Common.js, not in an extension. It shouldn't have been affected by the MediaWiki upgrade. --Jake 15:11, January 17, 2015 (EST)
I'm sure it was working right up until the upgrade though. I'll have a look at it, see if I can figure anything out. The Solar Dragon 15:22, January 17, 2015 (EST)
Would this extension work? / Loco87 (Talk / Contribs) 16:21, May 31, 2015 (EDT)
This is installed now. Let me know how it works. --Jake 12:38, June 3, 2015 (EDT)
It works perfectly, but it sometimes takes some time to work properly. Thanks Jake! / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 18:42, June 3, 2015 (EDT)

Images at Svenska Wikisimpsons

Remove link from special pages

Hi Jake, there is a link to Web chat which should be removed from the special pages. It's under "Data and tools". FatHomerTalk 14:29, September 20, 2015 (EDT) Also, this link: Special:Patrol doesn't work for me. I just get a white page. FatHomerTalk 14:33, September 20, 2015 (EDT)

It happens the same to me. / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 17:07, September 20, 2015 (EDT)
I've removed those, thanks! --Jake 17:37, September 20, 2015 (EDT)

Skin

The new skin looks so cool. damn that new look though was so sudden wasn't prepared for it to go live now :D LetsPlayNintendoITA (talk) 23:56, September 23, 2015 (EDT)

I appreciate that! Please let me know if you have any suggestions or experience any problems. I'm sure there will be a few glitches we missed. (I already spotted a problem with the search bar on Safari for Mac.) --Jake 00:07, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
just one thing. i think yellow looks better then the pink lol LetsPlayNintendoITA (talk) 00:08, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Oh it definitely does. Pink is not our color lol. --Jake 00:11, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
then why is everything pink now? LetsPlayNintendoITA (talk) 00:12, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
It's in celebration of the anniversary, as decided on WS:10Y. --Jake 00:55, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Can't it be changed back afterwards? It looks so ridiculous. --Spare-tire (talk) 01:12, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Yes, it'll be changed back to yellow afterwards. Now stop complaining. This isn't going to be the permanent color palette. The Solar Dragon 04:44, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Cool choice to me. Btw something weird: i didn't recieve notifications of changes to this page (the answers) since the one Jake did at 00:55, September 24, 2015 (EDT) LetsPlayNintendoITA (talk) 00:24, September 25, 2015 (EDT)
I haven't changed anything that would affect how emails are sent. Did you visit the page (while logged in) between edits? To cut down on unnecessary emails, the server only emails you once per page until you go back to the page while logged in. --Jake 17:42, September 25, 2015 (EDT)
That has to be it :p ok LetsPlayNintendoITA 17:53, September 25, 2015 (EDT)

A couple of things

Hi, images don't fully work in the sitenotice, as I just found out. lol. Also, the resizing of the edit window still doesn't seem to work properly. It keeps resetting to half the size of the article's width rather than all the way across. The Solar Dragon 01:14, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

I can believe it, this latest change really isn't much help. --Spare-tire (talk) 01:16, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

Oh, could you also changed {{NavboxBorder}}, {{LightBox}} and {{DarkBox}} to the same way you do the main page color switches please? Thank you, The Solar Dragon 04:43, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

This is done. I've also updated the colors to be more in line with the new theme. --Jake 14:46, September 25, 2015 (EDT)

And categories on some pages (i.e. The Book Job) are in the footer of the layout and not all that clear. The Solar Dragon 04:49, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

Thanks! I'll look into all of that later today when I get out of school. Spare-tire, you can change back to the old yellow skin in Special:Preferences if it bothers you that much. --Jake 06:33, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Also, the "search" box looks weird on the top of the page, it reminds me of the search boxes in Wikia. Could it be placed in the same place as before? Despite all these little things the skin looks so great and pink is definitely not the colour for this wiki. Happy Birthday Wikisimpsons! / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 07:14, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
I'll have to get everyone's opinion on that. The new search bar design and location was meant to keep up with the new "Web 2.0" style being employed on modern website layouts. The search bar is also programmed in the same place as before as well, but it's hidden currently. At the very least, I'd like to offer users a choice between the two locations. And I'm definitely not trying to take inspiration from Wikia. Wikia's bad design is kinda what got us here in the first place, after all. :P --Jake 08:18, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
I know you are not taking inspiration from Wikia. I know the history of this wiki. It's quite a great skin (Wikisimpsons' new one, not wikia's). Great work! / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 09:59, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

Is it possible to differentiate the external links from internal links a bit please? They look pretty similar at the moment. Thanks, The Solar Dragon 12:56, September 24, 2015 (EDT)

It doesn't say how to change color schemes in "My Perferences". --Spare-tire (talk) 16:52, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Jake didn't say there's an option to change the colour. He said there's the option to change back to the old skin (which is yellow). It's in the top of the "Appearance" tab in Preferences. / Loco87 (TALK / Contribs) 17:31, September 24, 2015 (EDT)
Oh, I see I was looking for the wrong thing. --Spare-tire (talk) 19:47, September 25, 2015 (EDT)

There seems to be something weird going on with the contents box on Panda-Monium!. It gets pushed into the middle of the page by some text on the first line. The Solar Dragon 11:22, September 26, 2015 (EDT)

Suggestion for a finnish Wikisimpsons

Hello! Could you set up a finnish version of this wiki? --Joona (talk) 07:48, September 26, 2015 (EDT)

It really depends on how much interest there will be in it. Just one person working on it won't be too good. If you can get a few people interested in building up a wiki then we'll see about it. The Solar Dragon 07:54, September 26, 2015 (EDT)
Ok. Joona(Talk) 05:53, October 18, 2015 (EDT)

Swedish wikisimpsons

Hi Jake, can you add the new skin to the swedish wikismpsons? FatHomerTalk 17:48, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

I'm going to leave that up to AleWi to decide, since he's the main editor over there and there would be some pretty heavy color changes required. (Since they don't use the color switch templates and it can't be done automatically.) --Jake 17:54, September 27, 2015 (EDT)
Okay, I understand FatHomerTalk 17:57, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Okay Here

Okay here is the download https://www.dropbox.com/s/8ot5h1vz2l83ns6/Simpsons%20MX.zip?dl=0 Thanks AliciaTalk 18:50, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Which category and license type should I use for these images when I upload them? --Jake 18:52, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Category: Comics, Mexican Comics (?) Latin American Comics (?)
Licensing: Comic Artwork AliciaTalk 18:57, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Ok, they've been uploaded. --Jake 19:29, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Thanks AliciaTalk 19:31, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

I haven't had this problem before, but the image is rather small http://prntscr.com/8l8sfm (When On actual page mind) and I was wondering how to make images bigger in the table? (The actual image on its own is big) yet its tiny as hell on the actual page. (I was using the usual template I use) AliciaTalk 19:56, September 27, 2015 (EDT) I get this error trying to upload a new version of File:Simpsons_2MX.JPG because the image isn't there but get this error whilst uploading it "Could not read or write file "mwstore://local-backend/local-public/2/25/Simpsons_2MX.JPG" due to insufficient permissions or missing directories/containers. Try again now. And I'm not sure about the size thing, so I would suggest asking another editor who uses that template regularly. --Jake 20:33, September 27, 2015 (EDT)
could you add Simpsons Comics Mexico to the foreign comics section please Wikisimpsons:Comics_Main_Page AliciaTalk 22:21, September 27, 2015 (EDT)

Hide talk pages

Hi Jake, is it possible to hide the talk pages from Special:WantedPages? FatHomerTalk 15:22, September 29, 2015 (EDT)

There is unfortunately not a way to do this, as that page is programmed into the MediaWiki core. Is there a particular reason you want talk pages excluded? If there is a justifiable need for such a report I can probably work something out for you. --Jake 13:13, September 30, 2015 (EDT)
Okay, they're not really "wanted pages" so I don't they shouldn't be there and we would get a more accurate number of how many pages are needed. I also haven't asked the other users here. However, if it's much extra work for you, I don't think you should do it. FatHomerTalk 16:24, September 30, 2015 (EDT)

Title of pages with Italics and TOCU update

hey, i was noticing with the new skin, that pages' titles with italics (like The_Simpsons:_Tapped_Out_IRS_and_Job_Manager_content_update for example) have a problem of being too much near the non-italic part (i.e. Out and IRS). Is there a way to fix this? LetsPlayNintendoITA 19:21, September 29, 2015 (EDT)

I can see what you mean. It's actually the font itself that is doing that, and there isn't any way (that I know of) to apply extra spacing after individual letters. One option would be to add an extra space in there or a   tag to add additional spacing. The other option would be to choose a new font for titles, although I'd like to avoid this if possible. --Jake 13:13, September 30, 2015 (EDT)
seems like the   works. I'm going to edit the TSTO Pages with that added then. Lots of changed pages incoming :p LetsPlayNintendoITA 13:28, September 30, 2015 (EDT)
one thing weird is if a person haven't installed the font (i.e. the font i'm using in my sig that apparently is only present in some microsoft programs) the font won't appear on the site. dunno if it's cause it's not installed or not. Anyway i'm slowly updating all TSTO content pages with the correction in the title, and since i'm already doing that, adding the progression bar on top linking to the previous/next content update, and editing the template TOCUPrevNext too accordingly, fixing changed names and adding the newest stuff too. since there're 104 CO i'll do it slowly but it'll be done :D LetsPlayNintendoITA 05:09, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
The font thing actually isn't skin specific, but has more to do with how the web and CSS works. I would suggest adding additional backup fonts to your signature, so when someone doesn't have the Algerian font they'll see something else. I'd recommend setting a backup font that nearly everyone has, like Times New Roman or Calibri. For example, do something like this: style="font-family:Algerian,Calibri;" --Jake 06:47, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
i checked from another pc and from mobile and it shows with the normal skin font so its not a problem. Also with the triple color the signature wont fit in the preference's box adding other fonts anyway LetsPlayNintendoITA 07:04, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
Well if you do need more space for your signature, I would suggest creating a subpage of your user page (ex. "Sig") and then setting your signature in preferences to {{subst:LetsPlayNintendoITA/Sig}}. That's a pretty popular work-around for the signature size limit. --Jake 11:45, October 1, 2015 (EDT)

Why does this happen?

Do you know why this happens http://imgur.com/a/KOiGx ? Not on all pages. It happens when I'm using safari. When I tried the same article on firefox, it looked normal. FatHomerTalk 17:36, September 30, 2015 (EDT)

I was wondering that too, because it happens to me but only seems to be an issue on that one skin AliciaTalk 19:37, September 30, 2015 (EDT)

I noticed that as well, and it's on my list of weird Safari-only errors to fix. It seems to be caused by a template only used on comic pages. Thanks for confirming this for me, and please do let me know if you find anything else. -Jake 19:56, September 30, 2015 (EDT)
This doesn't happen after I updated to El Capitan, that's good :) FatHomerTalk 03:58, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
Good to know, and very strange. Thanks! --Jake 06:47, October 1, 2015 (EDT)

Halloween skin

Hi Jake. I've just noticed that we're in October now so it means something: Wikisimpsons' Halloween skin. The new skin hasn't changed its colours. But the old one has changed its colours and logo. / Loco87 (SimpsonsFT.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFL.pngSimpsonsFK.png / Contribs) 11:07, October 1, 2015 (EDT)

We've actually changed the holiday schedule this year; check WS:10Y#Plans for the current schedule. The old skin hasn't yet been updated to the new schedule, so it's jumping the gun on this and I'll have to fix it when I get home later. The new skin and the rest of the site colors will automatically update on time for this year's schedule. --Jake 11:50, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
Hi Jake, it's November 1st. According to the new skin schedule the normal yellow colours should have come back. And I'm talking about the new skin. / Loco87 (SimpsonsFT.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFL.pngSimpsonsFK.png / Contribs) 12:39, November 1, 2015 (EST)
with the Halloween Event still going it still looks good, though i know the site is not about TSTO only xD LetsPlayNintendoITA 12:42, November 1, 2015 (EST)
The Halloween skin runs through November 1st, not until November 1st. It's all pre-programmed and the site will automatically revert to normal colors tomorrow, for all skins. --Jake 13:12, November 1, 2015 (EST)

The SF Shopper

Hey jake, i tried sending the request for password lost on The SF Shopper but it says "Sorry, that key does not appear to be valid." on the link i recieve via mail what do i do? i had trouble logging in from the WP app... LetsPlayNintendoITA 19:45, October 1, 2015 (EDT)

nvm i found it but the email still gives me that error [1] LetsPlayNintendoITA 19:48, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
Yes, that's intentional. You can't change your password on TSS because it's controlled by the wiki. You would want to use Special:PasswordReset to send a lost password request, and once you complete the process on the wiki your password will be instantly updated on TSS. --Jake 20:15, October 1, 2015 (EDT)
oooooooooooooooooh i forgot about that -feels dumb- thanks LetsPlayNintendoITA 20:16, October 1, 2015 (EDT)

Halloween Skin and Tables

HalloweenSkinTable.png

I think the table text and the [show] should be white or be more distinguishable. they're kinda hard to read like this.
I've submitted a fix for this. You may need to edit the article and save without changing anything to be able to see the new color. --Jake 16:32, October 11, 2015 (EDT)
it autoupdates after a bit (Such as when you update stuff like the {{Tapped Out|updates=yes}}). Looks great :D thanks LetsPlayNintendoITA 16:53, October 11, 2015 (EDT)

More images

could you upload more comic images for me if i send you the link to the zip? thanks AliciaTalk 14:41, October 14, 2015 (EDT)

Sure thing. Just email me (jake@simpsonswiki.com) the zip or Dropbox link, and let me know which categories/licenses should be added. --Jake 14:50, October 14, 2015 (EDT)

Indexing TSTO updates and user boxes

hey jake, if you noticed today i did basicly change almost every TSTO update page. I setup that   thing you told me the other week. It worked :D I added that and titles to every page of update. Just two things:

Not sure about that. You may want to contact Loco97 since he's the one who built that part of the template. --Jake 17:23, October 15, 2015 (EDT)
  • Can you delete this page? The_Simpsons:_Tapped_Out_Duff_Brewery_offer_content_update it was part of st. patrick's day update and infact isn't even counted as an update. thanks LetsPlayNintendoITA 20:19, October 14, 2015 (EDT)
Done --Jake 17:23, October 15, 2015 (EDT)
Oh also the userboxes with the Halloween skins are kinda less readable i.e. User:LetsPlayNintendoITA maybe a white text? i dunno if that can be applied just for halloween or what LetsPlayNintendoITA 20:30, October 14, 2015 (EDT)
I'll see what I can do about that. Should be a simple fix. --Jake 17:23, October 15, 2015 (EDT)

Less spam accounts

Hi, is there a way to get less spam accounts? For example, when creating a new account, you have to answer a question "What is Homers age? Go to Homers page to see the answer." and several similar questions. How hard is it to add that, and do you think it would help? FatHomerTalk 07:15, October 19, 2015 (EDT)

We already have CAPTCHAs in place. The Solar Dragon 09:42, October 19, 2015 (EDT)
The questions aren't meant to be difficult because we want anyone to be able to sign up without much effort. Every once in a while, the spammer will look up the answers and program them into the spam robots, and then we just need to change the questions again. --Jake 10:33, October 19, 2015 (EDT)

Can't log in

Hi Jake, I get this message when I try to log in "Login error Wikisimpsons uses cookies to log in users. You have cookies disabled. Please enable them and try again." - FatHomer 04:58, October 23, 2015 (EDT)

Yeah I already sent a mail to him and Solar Dragon about it. LetsPlayNintendoITA 06:24, October 23, 2015 (EDT)
This is fixed now, and due to some changes I've made, can't happen again. --Jake 08:44, October 23, 2015 (EDT)
Thanks! :) FatHomerTalk 09:30, October 23, 2015 (EDT)

Some templates need to be fixed to look well with the new skin

Hi Jake. There are some templates that need to be fixed so they don't look weird with the new skin. These templates are the templates that are added at the top of the pages. You fixed the {{Featured article}} template, but some templates (like {{Semi}}, {{Realworld}}, {{Comp}}, ...) need to be fixed. Could you do it? I tried to fix the "Semi" template, only to make it look worse. Thanks! / Loco87 (SimpsonsFT.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFL.pngSimpsonsFK.png / Contribs) 10:48, November 6, 2015 (EST)

Hey, thanks for pointing those out! I've made some minor adjustments which seem to make them look better but there are still some inconsistencies, especially with {{Realworld}}. I'm going to have to set some time aside in the coming days to redesign how those badges display and try to get them to better fit into the skin. (Maybe at the top near the user bar, or near the page toolbar.) --Jake 01:43, November 7, 2015 (EST)

Appearance

This may sound stupid but here goes is it possible to get the halloween theme in appearance tab using "Custom CSS" ? Thanks Dylan - Talk Contribs 19:23, November 8, 2015 (EST)

It's a good question actually! While it is technically possible to override most of the colors to be the Halloween theme using the Custom CSS feature, you still wouldn't be able to easily change the color of the infoboxes around the site because most don't have associated CSS classes. All of those colors are determined by the server at the time the page is rendered. So while I suppose it's technically possible by playing with the CSS, it would be a lot more trouble than it's worth. --Jake 10:02, November 10, 2015 (EST)

Tab templates

Hi Jake. I'm telling you the same I've told to Solar: "I've just seen there's a problem with the Tab templates. (At least with the tab templates used with episodes except from the {{Tab}} template). The problem is that the templates make a line break between them and whatever there is under them (usually the "EpisodePrevNext" templates, but that's not important). To see what happens under the tab templates:Puffless and Puffless/References. The tab templates that have this problem are {{TabR}}, {{TabA}}, {{TabC}}, {{TabG}} and {{TabQ}}. What do you think? Can you fix it? Thanks!" / Loco87 (SimpsonsFT.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFL.pngSimpsonsFK.png / Contribs) 10:09, November 10, 2015 (EST)

Just to be clear: are you referring to the yellow line that stretches across the page under the tabs, or the empty space under the line itself? The yellow horizontal line is intentional and a replacement to the previous border that used to surround the whole page on the old skin, but any extra space is not. --Jake 18:00, November 10, 2015 (EST)
I am referring to the empty space under the template. / Loco87 (SimpsonsFT.pngSimpsonsFA.pngSimpsonsFL.pngSimpsonsFK.png / Contribs) 18:09, November 10, 2015 (EST)
Ok, I'll add that to my list of corrections to make. The only reason I'm not looking into it right away is because I currently have the code for the site locked while I work on some pretty ambitious upgrades to the site infrastructure to improve speed and reliability. (Expect an email about that within the next few days.) --Jake 17:57, November 12, 2015 (EST)
I think I've managed to fix this. Does it look okay on your end? --Jake 12:57, November 15, 2015 (EST)

The Springfield Shopper

Hey jake, i've a problem with firefox. I can't seem to edit well with Firefox:

  • by clicking on an image added, i can' t find the usual buttons to move it to the left of the image, edit, etc.
  • by trying to add a picture the select image doesn't work

It works fine on chrome but not on firefox. Any idea what's going on? thanks LetsPlayNintendoITA 10:23, November 14, 2015 (EST)
