Cultural references

• The episode title is a pun on the television talk show Politically Incorrect, which was hosted by Bill Maher and aired from 1993 to 2002. Even though the show's title was simply Politically Incorrect, it was commonly referred to as "Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher".
• The chalkboard gag is a reference to The Adventures of Tintin, which was released (in the United States) only a month before the episode aired.
• The clip Milhouse watches after Bart's Fatso Goes Nutso is a reference to a popular YouTube video in which a bear climbed up a tree and fell onto a trampoline, before landing on the grass.
• The music played in the background while people are watching Bart's clip is the same music as in the film Henry V (1989) during the St. Crispin's Day speech - both scenes deal with a rousing speech. (Done similarly also in "Boy Meets Curl" when Homer gives a speech)
• This is the show's second reference to shock site Lemonparty.org (the first was in "Flaming Moe").
• A mask of Homer made after he becomes famous (again) is actually a Shrek mask painted yellow.
• During one of his tirades on Gut Check with Homer Simpson, Homer shows the faces of the Presidents on Mount Rushmore being replaced by the following:
  • Mao Zedong
  • Doctor Doom (from Marvel Comics)
  • The Ayatollah Khomeini
  • Patty and Selma
• The Gravy Boat Movement started by Homer is an obvious parody of the Tea Party movement.
• The scene in which various townspeople are gathering gravy boats begins with a reference to "American Beauty" with Chris Cooper's character, Col. Frank Fitts, getting a gravy boat from his locked cabinet seen in the film. In the room he was sitting in, there was a picture of a rose, a common symbol within the film.
• Spiffany's is a parody of Tiffany & Co., often called Tiffany's.
• When the townspeople are marching down the road, one person is carrying a sign saying "Occupy Springfield and Stay for the Garlic Festival" a parody of the Occupy movement.
• The "Liberal straw man's song" is a parody of "If I Only Had a Brain", written by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg.
• The first song Ted Nugent sings is a parody of "Hail to the Chief". The second song Nugent and Homer sings is a parody of "Cat Scratch Fever" by Ted Nugent.

Trivia

• At the Springfield Republican Party meeting, Homer is asked to choose a "white male" Presidential nominee. However, Julius Hibbert was also at the meeting so should have been opposed to that sort of racism.

Continuity

• The Springfield Airport sign proclaims "Built for the Olympics we never got", a reference to "The Old Man and the "C" Student".
• MyTube is seen again. ("Elementary School Musical", "The Falcon and the D'ohman")
• Nash Castor returns with his talk show Head Butt. ("Bart-Mangled Banner")
• Adriatica Vel Johnson, a democrat who tried to get Ralph Wiggum to be a democrat, is seen again. ("E Pluribus Wiggum")
• Homer notes that he is famous again. Homer has became famous many times. ("Homer's Barbershop Quartet", "The Homer of Seville" et al.)
• At the end of the episode, Homer's new Gut Check with Homer Simpson logo is Angry Dad. ("I Am Furious (Yellow)", "Angry Dad: The Movie").

• Bart says he's uploading the video to YouTube, yet Milhouse is seen watching it on MyTube.
  • Someone may have reuploaded it to MyTube. Popular videos often get reuploaded on the Internet elsewhere.
• When Homer's clothes burst out of his suitcase, he caught his underpants on his tongue but his tongue went through them.
• When Homer was getting patted down, his stubble was yellow, not brown.
• Before Bart uploads Fatso Goes Nutso to YouTube, he watches a short video on his portable computer which features Homer being chased by security guards on a conveyor belt. That video should have been uploaded to YouTube, and not the video with Homer ranting.
  • However, Bart could have been already on the upload page, and just watched another video before uploading it.
