- The episode title is a reference to Heartless.
- Milhouse reads Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
- The children's books seen at the library are parodies of real-world ones:
- Everyone Loves Their Job is a parody of books by children's author and illustrator Richard Scarry.
- Charlotte's Web History is a parody of Charlotte's Web.
- Everyone Sometimes Has Dry Skin is a parody of Everybody Poops.
- If You Give a Mouse a Bookie is a parody of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
- The mouse on the cover is betting on Los Angeles Lakers against Denver Nuggets on a bookie.
- Where the Mild Wings Are is a parody of Where the Wild Things Are.
- Springfield Elementary School accidentally stocked Matthew Perry's autobiography. Perry released an autobiography called Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing in 2022.
- Ralph drawing with a purple crayon is a reference to Harold and the Purple Crayon.
- Morgenblätter, Op. 279 by Johann Strauss II plays during the scene of Homer and Marge getting ready for the day and the first morning Bart is there for.

- Homer plays the "Charge" fanfare by Tommy Walker at the Isotope Stadium.
- "Insane in the Brain" by Cypress Hill plays during the Rally Ferret scene on the jumbotron.
- "Lido Shuffle" by Boz Scaggs plays on the jukebox in Moe's Tavern and later in Seymour Skinner's car, and then again during the end credits.
- Chief Wiggum says that a prisoner in the cell next to where Bart would be staying would become huge on Dateline.
- Lisa is worried she may have obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) while Bart acknowledges he has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- Bart plays the fast-growing sport pickleball using pickles as balls.
- The Springfield Isotopes are playing against the Miami Marlins of Ohio, a reference to the Miami Marlins MLB team.
- Homer calls Bart "Memento Junior" in a reference to the 2000 psychological thriller Memento. In this film, the protagonist, Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce), suffers from short-term memory loss as Bart did in this episode.
- Bart manipulates the kiss cam at the stadium while Homer mentions he is a Jumbotron operator.
- Lisa included a Trapper Keeper product in her diorama on history of homework. She was about to relate her project to Ancient Assyria before being interrupted by Bart.
- The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode "The Great British Slaying Show" is a parody of The Great British Bake Off.
- The judge mice are parodies of Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding who are presenters on the show.
