Musical Instruments You Can Play Without Taking Lessons! are simple or improvised instruments that Homer learned about while sitting in with the Spuckler Family Band. Homer includes a brief description of each instrument seen in the picture of the band.

Instruments[edit]

Label Musician Instrument Description
1 Dubya Comb wrapped in wax paper Makes simple humming sound like a symphony coming out of a busted speaker!
2 Crystal Meth Didgeridoo Funny name. Creepy sound.
3 Incest Jug Some are for showin'! This one's for blowin'!
4 Sideshow Mel
(Guest Soloist)
Slide whistle Also known as a "piston flute", the slide whistle is great for when you want to add a Pee-Wee Herman quality to your musical arrangement.
5 Brandine
(World's Greatest Ham Bone Artist)
Hambone Mmm... ham bone.
6 Mary Saw Drag the bow over the bent saw and it sounds just like angels singing ... if angels took LSD.
7 Whitney Jew's harp For that extra twangy Leonard Cohen sound!
8 Cletus Washboard Board has ridges. Drag a stick over the ridges. Drag it up, drag it down, board makes noise. Easy!
9 Heather Rainstick Turn it one way, then the other, like an hourglass. The problem with this one is the sound makes me have to pee.
10 Dylan Beat Box There's a microphone, so I think this is more like singing than playing an instrument. I still don't know where this kid hides the box.
11 Q-Bert Maracas Cletus says he only uses these when his dried gourds are in the pawn shop. If you can make a cocktail, you can play these.
12 Gummy Sue Drum machine The easiest instrument of them all! Just push the on button!
13 Homer Simpson
(Guest Soloist)
Armpit tuba Some may say I'm just making fart sounds, and they may be right. But at least they're coming from my armpit. It could be worse.
14 Birthday, Jitney, Taylor, and Cody
(The Fabulous Skunk Holler Horn Section)
Kazoos The little one cries when you tell him kazoos aren't horns.
15 International Harvester New Year's Eve Noisemakers These add a drunky, horny, regretful, yet hopeful sound to any song!
