Jeopardy! is a game show.

History

When the people of Springfield thought that the Simpsons' Christmas gifts and tree had been stolen, they donated thousands of dollars to replace everything. However, Bart confessed that he had accidentally destroyed the tree and presents in a fire, and the Springfieldians demanded their money back. Marge then went on Jeopardy! to try to earn money to pay them back, but she did very poorly, finishing with a score of -$5,200. When she left the studio after the game, Alex Trebek appeared and reminded her that she was $5,200 in the hole, suggesting that the rules claim Jeopardy contestants owe the show whatever money they have in the hole, and sicced two large men on her to try to get her to pay up. Marge, however, made a clean getaway.[1]

An episode of Jeapoardy! was on TV at Moe's Tavern. When Homer showed up, Moe offered to turn it off and talk about shapes and colors with Homer instead.[2]

Homer once dreamed he was on the show.[3]

Behind the Laughter

  • Jeopardy! is a real game show.
  • In real life, if Jeopardy! contestants finish with a negative score, they do not owe the show money. In addition, Marge is shown with a negative score in the Final Jeopardy round. In real life, contestants with negative score sit out Final Jeopardy (as they have nothing to wager). This was probably added for humor.
