- Bart plays Cereal Killer, a play on serial killer, on his Game Boy Advance.
- When talking about limbo, Homer was not sure whether Sylvia meant the dance or the place where innocent souls go.
- During the limbo scene, the song "Limbo Rock" by Chubby Checker can be heard in the background, along with Homer and Sylvia singing it.
- Bart mentions American frontierman Davy Crockett when he had to stay in the Kozy Kabins.
- Homer asks Marge if she wanted to play Lakeside Boggle, a reference to the famous board game.
- Jimbo, Dolph and Kearney are reading Esquire, and they mention anti-nuclear advocate Helen Caldicott, director Julie Taymor and the Windsor knot.
- One of the hearts carved on the tree had "SBC + AT&T" written in it. The Southwestern Bell Corporation (SBC) was one of the seven independent companies owned by AT&T.
- The non-linear plot showing various points in Homer and Marge's relationship is very similar to the 1967 film Two for the Road, starring Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney.
