Barnacle Bay is an island located in New England and a former tourist attraction.

History

Marge had many happy memories of visiting Barnacle Bay as a child. When she saw some old home movie footage of a family trip to Barnacle Bay, she began to feel nostalgic for the place. Homer took her there for a visit, but Marge was sad to find that the island had become a disgusting dump, in sharp contrast to the tourist paradise it had been when she was a child. Homer tried to bring back some of the island's appeal by repairing the boardwalk, running the carousel (Marge's favorite thing on the island) by hand and staging a fireworks display, but his plan backfired when the fireworks set the boardwalk on fire and burned down both it and the carousel.

Barnacle Bay's main industries had been tourism and fishing for the Yum Yum Fish, the most delicious fish in the ocean. However, the economy went into decline when the fish died out. To make up for burning the boardwalk and carousel, Homer promised to revive the island's fishing industry. He actually organized a fishing trip which caught plenty of Yum Yum Fish and the island's fishermen were ready to return to the ocean in force. However, Lisa stepped in and gave everyone a stern lecture about the dangers of overfishing, which had been responsible for the island's previous economic downfall because it drove the fish away. As a result, the island's inhabitants switched their main industry from fishing to logging.

Points of interest on Barnacle Bay include:

  • The remains of the carousel and boardwalk
  • A church
