Cultural references
- The story's title is a pun on the Jane Austen novel Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a film in 1995 and has twice been serialized for television by the BBC (in 1981 and 2008).
- Peanuts: Bart gives a report on Benjamin Franklin where his version of the kite experiment has Franklin deliberately getting the kite with the key stuck in a tree. When lightning strikes the key, and in turn the tree, Franklin triumphantly cries, "Kite-eating tree, I'll see you in hell!!!", referencing Charlie Brown's recurring battles with the kite-eating tree.
