How the Vest Was Won! is a comic story featured in Simpsons Comics #57. The story was later reprinted in the collection Simpsons Comics Barn Burner.

Plot

Bart appears on a TV show and gets a special bullet-proof vest for squealing on Nelson, Kearney, Jimbo and Dolph for stealing wax lips from the Kwik-E-Mart. The four vow revenge on Bart once their community service is up, but in the meanwhile, Bart wears his vest everywhere, and shows it off to the Springfield Elementary students.

The bullies' first two plots involving bees and a violent dog fail due to the strength of Bart's vest and Dolph and Jimbo end up hospitalized. Eventually, Bart is in a face-off with Nelson and Kearney, but Kearney gives up because of the effort. Just as Nelson is about to attack Bart, a piece of the falling, crumbly monorail track falls and nearly hits Nelson until Bart pushes him away. Bart's act of heroism appears in the Springfield Shopper (albeit with names spelled incorrectly), and he gets a fireman's ax as a second award. Nelson decides to call it even and Bart stops wearing his vest because it now makes him feel like a dork.
