Springfield has a variety of laws that are not found in other parts of the state or the US.

Laws

Town Charter

• The charter starts with "We the People of Springfield" and is signed by six people, including Jebediah Springfield^[1]
• The chief constable shall receive one pig every month and two comely lasses of virtue true ^[2]
• If food stuff should touch the ground, said food stuff should be turned over to the village idiot ^[3]
• Ducks shall wear long pants ^[4]

Laws on legality

• It is illegal to mail threatening letters ^[5]
• It is illegal to put squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling ^[5]
• Casino gambling is legal ^[6]
• No mercury dumping without permit ^[7]
• It is a crime to tease the fast food order box ^[8]
• It is illegal for movie producers not to wear puffy director's pants.^[9]
• It is illegal to operate a Class-9 Vehicle (e.g. skateboard) without pads and a helmet^[10]
• Spirituous beverages are hereby prohibited in Springfield under penalty of catapult (200 years ago, lated appealed 1 year later)^[4]
• It is a misdemeanor to destroy historic curiosities^[11]
