The Itchy & Scratchy Game is a single player platform video game that was released for SNES, and Sega Game Gear based around The Itchy & Scratchy Show. There exists an unreleased prototype for a Sega Mega Drive version of the game.

Plot[edit]

The game has no plot outside of Itchy trying to kill Scratchy. When the final level is completed, the game simply ends and goes to the credits screen.

Gameplay[edit]

The player controls Itchy whose goal is to torture and kill Scratchy in seven levels. In each level, Itchy travels through various locales trying to collect various weapons and chase down Scratchy, whilst avoiding hazards and other enemies that can damage him.

Scratchy usually avoids the player, but will occasionally appear to Itchy to launch an attack, he will resume running after finishing the attack or being attacked Itchy. Unlike alot of platformers, the goal of the game is not to get to the end of the level, but to drop Scratchy's long lifebear to zero.

After Scratchy's lifebar is emptied in the SNES, the player will move to a boss fight where Scratchy uses a vehicle or cover to attack Itchy with projectiles, to defeat Scratchy the player must attack Scratchy with their own projectiles they can collect during the battle. When the boss battle is completed, the player moves onto to the next level. In the case of the final boss, beating the boss takes the player directly to the ending screen.

Levels[edit]

Weapons[edit]

Both Itchy and Scratchy begin each cartoon with a mallet. In every level can the two characters pick up more weapons. Itchy can only carry one weapon in addition to his mallet at the time.

Reception[edit]

The game has received very negative reviews, Game Players rated the SNES version 35/100, saying "Gameplay suffers from extensive repetition and poor control and, despite the large number of weapons included in the game, there are too few opportunities to pick them up. For true Simpsons fans, the Itchy and Scratchy level in Bart's Nightmare is still the best place to look for this duo." The GamePro magazine rated it 40, saying "The control is the worst part. In a game of jumping and hitting, the lack of jumping attacks and the inaccurate weapons make you itch for a different game." Entertainment Weekly magazine rated it a "C", saying "There's a reason Itchy & Scratchy cartoons rarely occupy more than 30 seconds of any Simpsons episode: stretch the concept to the full half hour, and the ratings would plummet. It's the same for videogames. While Itchy and Scratchy appeared in a hilarious cameo on the Super NES cartridge Bart's Nightmare, here they duke it out in an interminable, multistage whackfest."[1]
