- The story's title is a pun on the Jane Austen novel Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a film in 1995 and has twice been serialized for television by the BBC (in 1981 and 2008).
- Peanuts: Bart gives a report on Benjamin Franklin where his version of the kite experiment has Franklin deliberately getting the kite with the key stuck in a tree.
