Maggie and Moe are the only ones not in the will, so they are impartial enough to solve the mystery. Baby Gerald threw a fake bone at Maggie so Maggie threw it at Moe, and he almost falls down the stairs, just like Gil. Moe then solves the mystery. The lights went out, and when Gil turned them on again, he tripped over the bone that Gerald threw, and tumbled down the stairs. Gil was alive at the end, and lying on top of the will. Plot
