Sideshow Slob is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #186.
Synopsis[edit]
Bart, Milhouse and Nelson are playing "Face or Gut" when Milhouse decides to take a box. Sideshow Bob tells them that he owns the box. He tells Bart that he is not welcome in prison and since no one wants to hire him, he has to live in the box. Meanwhile, Lisa is in the library and finds out that if the library does not get more visitors, they will have to close. Bart and Milhouse go to look for Sideshow Bob, and they discover that Chester J. Lampwick is with him. He tells them that even though he is rich, he enjoys life as a homeless person and has become Bob's new friend.
Lisa tries to get the students at the school to start reading books again, but finds out that they only read on tablets these days. She then tries to get the women in Springfield to start reading again, but finds out they only listen to audiobooks. Lisa and Bart are watching the news when they hear that Lampwick has died and Bob has inherited his money. Then Bob says that Bart Simpson will get what's coming to him. Lisa tries to get the comic book fans to start reading the comic books in the library, but finds out that Comic Book Guy has covered the comic books with poison ivy. After a few weeks, Bob has built "Bartland" with his money and asks Bart to come tomorrow for the inauguration. Lisa tries to get the elderly to start reading books, but the books expose them to paper cuts. Mayor Quimby decides to close the library.
Bart and Lisa go to Bartland. During their first trip the two are almost killed, and they realize that all of the attractions are death traps. Bob locks them in the amusement park. Lisa writes "Help" with mustard on hot dogs and throws them out into the street. The police come and release them, but not because they saw the text on the hot dog; instead, they came for more hot dogs. Lisa tells them that she found Lampwick in the "Hall of Mirrors". Bob tells them that he tried to kill Bart again, but he has a button that will blow up the whole amusement park. He pushes the button, but it turns out that Cletus has not connected the dynamite to the charge, so the button fails and Bob is arrested. Lisa tells Bart and Lampwick that she is happy that the two are safe, but sad that the library is now closed. Lampwick says he can open the library again. People are now visiting the library and reading books, but the only visitors are the homeless. Lisa is not happy, because the library is too crowded.
