Synopsis[edit]
- Bart and Milhouse's trip to the theater to watch Space Mutants I takes an unexpected turn when the Troy McClure film Gladys the Groovy Mule is shown instead.
Plot[edit]
Bart, Milhouse, and several other kids are excited to watch Space Mutants I at the theater. However, the employee tells them that there was a mix-up and the film had been shipped to the Shelbyville Rialto, so they had to show Gladys the Groovy Mule instead. The kids then throw their food and drink at the employee.
Peter Lewis is a nerd who wants to fit in with his fellow students. However, the other students think he is nerdy and don't want to have anything to do with him. Peter decides to get on the school football team so he can compete with jocks like Bash Flashman. However, the coach doesn't think he will fit in on the team, so he has Peter tend the school's mascot, Gladys, instead. While Peter is cleaning Gladys' shed, Gladys shocks him by speaking to him. Gladys decides to teach Peter how to be cool like her.
Peter and Gladys go to a jazz club, where they are confronted by two Soviet gangsters. They try to recruit Peter to work for the Communist First Secretary of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev. Peter fights them off with bongo drums, and a female jazz musician is impressed. However, Peter and Gladys have to leave to prepare for the big Summerfield Atoms game the next day.
During the game, the Atoms are losing, so Peter and Gladys take to the field. Gladys scores the winning points for the Atoms. After the game, Richard Nixon recruits Peter for Los Alamos. At the test site, Peter launches the bra bomb. Peter has also offered jobs to Bash Flashman and his friend to watch over the test site, and they are caught in the explosion, killing them. Peter then makes a toast to Gladys.
