You Only Move Twice is the 2nd episode of the Eighth season of The Simpsons. It features the guest voice of Albert Brooks as supervillian/GLOBEX owner Hank Scorpio. The title and parts of the main plot parody the James Bond film "You Only Live Twice". It features a caricature of James Bond who appears in a Goldfinger style scene. The song played over the credits is similar to the Goldfinger theme.

Synopsis

When Homer accepts a job at GLOBEX Corporation in Cypress Creek, the family decide to move there. Whilst there, Homer takes to his new boss really well, and starts to enjoy his new lifestyle. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the rest of the family. Marge is unable to do any work at all and descends into alcoholism. Bart gets put in the Remedial Class at school, and Lisa is allergic to all the area's plant life.

Back at work, Homer fails to realise that his boss is in fact an evil genius bent on world domination. But Homer enjoys his work and soon becomes a very competent manager. But then, his family tells him that they want to move back to Springfield. Stuck with a choice, Homer decides to visit his boss in his office. But whilst there, the military and Hank's henchmen break out into a war.

In the midst, Homer decides to leave. When the Simpsons return to Springfield, they find out that Hank Scorpio has seized the East Coast. Homer then picks up a letter saying that Hank Scorpio has given him a gift. "It's not the Dallas Cowboys, but it's a start." He soon finds out he now owns the Denver Broncos.

Quotes

  • Hank Scorpio: Good afternoon, gentlemen. This is Scorpio. I have the doomsday device. You have 72 hours to deliver the gold. Or you face the consequences. And to prove I'm not bluffing, watch this...
  • UN member #1: Oh, my God! The 59th Street Bridge!
  • UN member #2: Maybe it just collapsed on its own.
  • UN member #1: We can't take that chance.
  • UN member #2: You always say that. I want to take a chance!

  • Hank Scorpio: By the way, Homer. What's your least favourite country, Italy or France?
  • Homer: France.
  • Hank Scorpio: Heh-heh. Nobody ever says Italy.

  • Hank Scorpio: Don't call me that word. I don't like things that elevate me above the other people. I'm just like you. Oh sure, I come later in the day, I get paid a lot more, and I take longer vacations, but I don't like the word 'boss'.

  • Mr. Doyle: So, you never learned cursive?
  • Bart: Um, well, I know hell, damn, bit...
  • Mr. Doyle: Cursive handwriting. Script.

  • James Bont: Sure, do you expect me to talk?
  • Scorpio: I expect nothing from you, except to die and be a very cheap funeral. You're gonna die now!

"Scorpio" Song Lyrics

Scorpio!

He'll sting you with his dreams of power and wealth!

Beware of Scorpio!

His twisted twin obsessions are his plot to rule the world

And his employees' health!

He'll welcome you into his lair

Like the nobleman welcomes his guest!

With free dental care and a stock plan that helps you invest!

But beware of his generous pensions

Plus three weeks paid vacation each year!

And on Fridays the lunchroom serves hot dogs and burgers and beer!

He loves German beer!

Trivia and Goofs

  • Homer is disappointed with the Denver Broncos, even though he wished to be John Elway in #9F22, "Cape Feare".
  • Homer buys Tom Landry's hat in this episode. In later episodes like "Bart Star" he is seen wearing it.
  • The license plate on the Lil' Lugger Moving Van is 3F23, the same number as the episode's production code.
  • Homer has more seniority at the plant than Lenny and Carl.
  • In the scene where everyone says goodbye, the Anchor Shoppe (Captain McCallister) and the Android's Dungeon (Comic Book Guy) are next to each other. The Anchor Shoppe has never been anywhere near the Android's Dungeon.
  • According to Internet polls, Hank Scorpio has been voted Albert Brooks' best character.
  • When Hank leaves Homer with the workers and goes, the camera pans out and the workers seem to have been lying down, as they immediately get up and resume working. (Note that this is a freeze-frame joke)
  • In the Cypress Creek video, the hobo holding an envelope turns into a mail-box.
  • Some of the kids in Bart's 4th Grade class at Cypress Creek Elementary resemble kids from Springfield Elementary.
  • All the kids in Bart's remedial class talk and/or sound like Ralph Wiggum.
  • Lisa briefly befriends a Northern Reticulated Chipmunk, although such a thing does not exist.
  • Bart's remedial class scenes intercut with Lisa's forest scenes, which suggests that Lisa is skipping school.
  • They say that Cypress Creek is perfect, even though the vending machine at Scorpio's hide-out still won't take Homer's $1-bill.
  • Dan Castellaneta provided the voice of James Bont.
  • Homer can be seen scratching his butt whilst Scorpio reveals his plans to the members of the UN.
  • The family's new address is 15201 Maple Systems Road.
  • Their new house bares a vague resemblence to the Simpsons' regular house.
  • Bumble-Bee Man seems to be working at Channel 6 rather than Channel Ocho.
  • One item that Homer has not stolen from Ned Flanders before is the downstairs bathtub.
