Homer first met Candace when he went to pick up a prescription for his narcolepsy. The people in front of him were all old people who took forever, which led to Homer complaining about them. Candace thought that his complaints were funny. Homer then left without picking up his prescription.

Homer discovered Lurleen at [[The Beer -N- Brawl]], a country bar in [[Spittle County]]. She sang "[[Your Wife Don't Understand You]]" for the rowdy bar crowd, and Homer was amazed by her voice. He decided to help her launch a singing career, much to the chagrin of [[Marge]]. Lurleen was grateful to have someone helping her with her career, but she quickly started falling for Homer, and it came out in her song lyrics. First, she flirted with him in "[[Bagged Me a Homer]]", which angered Marge, but to which Homer remained oblivious. Then she made an open attempt to seduce him with an erotic song called "[[Bunk with Me Tonight]]". When Lurleen sang the song for him, it finally dawned on Homer that Lurleen was attracted to him.
  
Homer and [[Marge]] then had a trial separation. During this time, Homer had to go and pick up another prescription from Candace. Candace flirted with Homer and the two of them went out together. They went to a bar and then they got high on Homer's medication. The next morning, Homer woke up in bed next to Candace, which horrified him. Homer then tried to call Marge, but got through to [[Selma]] instead who said that Marge was on a date. After hearing this, Homer decided to keep dating Candace. He and Candace went to [[Springfield's Best and Seattle's Worst Coffee]] where they met up with Candace's friends. Whilst Homer was ordering food, Candace's friends gossiped about Homer and wanted to know why Candace was together with him, with Candace realizing that it was because he reminded her of a childhood snowman she made...

During the show, Lurleen made another attempt to seduce Homer, luring him into her dressing room and passionately kissing him. He abruptly quit as her manager in the middle of the show, sold her contract for $50 to an agent from Rebel Yell Records, and went home to Marge. Lurleen Lumpkin is an attractive, aspiring country western singer. Homer was her manager for a time.
