"Great Expectorations" is an episode of The Itchy & Scratchy Show. Bart and Lisa watched it on TV.

Background[edit]

Bart was doing research for a book report on the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations. In search of material, he called The Krusty the Clown Show and requested that they show the cartoon, pretending to be a boy who only had a week to live.

Plot[edit]

Scratchy is attending a carnival. A sign reading "Win $$$" catches his interest, and he follows it to a target spitting game being run by carny Itchy, who points at a large sign a few feet away that reads "Win $100.00". Scratchy spits and easily hits the sign dead center. Itchy then points to a sign at the far end of a nearby field and hands Scratchy a pair of binoculars. Peering through the binoculars, Scratchy sees that the sign reads "Win $1,000,000". Scratchy takes a huge breath and spits with all his might. In addition to spit, his heart goes flying out of his mouth and soars through the air, but lands just short of the sign. Itchy laughs as Scratchy keels over.

Reactions[edit]

Lisa enjoyed the cartoon immensely. Bart, however, was crestfallen and said disappointingly, "Let me guess. That was not an accurate adaptation of the Dickens classic."
