Bobbing for Vengeance is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #123.

Plot[edit]

During class Bart is watching TV on his cell phone. As his punishment, Mrs. Krabappel makes him write on the blackboard. After a while, he discovers that someone else has written with the board and not erased it, but instead of chalk it's written in blood. Bart tells Principal Skinner and Groundskeeper Willie that Sideshow Bob has been here, but the "blood" turns out to be ketchup. After Bart done writing on the blackboard, he receives a text saying "I will kill you Bart." He tells Lisa, but she believes he is paranoid.

During gym class, Bart gets hit in the head with a basketball with the text "Get ready for sudden death!", but he does not know who threw it. When Bart comes home, he tells Homer that he is afraid, but Homer is angry about his expensive phone bill. Bart says that he believes Sideshow Bob has escaped from prison and is after him, and asks him to call Chief Wiggum. Homer turns on the television series Big House Live, which broadcasts live from the prison, but Sideshow Bob is shown in the kitchen cooking a "Flaming Vengeance". Bart wonders who it is who wants him dead, if it's not Sideshow Bob.

The next day, Bart discovers that everyone in school except him is dressed in prison clothes. During the school day, heecomes close to having a concrete block in the head, a particle board over his head, getting hot French fry oil poured over him and getting stabbed. Bart then tells Skinner that someone is trying to kill him but he can't do anything, because there's no evidence. Skinner instead gives Bart a week's detention for not wearing the school's new dress code: prison clothes. Bart tries to explain again to Lisa that someone wants to kill him, but she does not listen and instead throws a stone at Bart's neck. She tells him that she did it because she felt like it. Bart then asks if it's because he gave her Malibu Stacy dolls to the dog, and Lisa angrily chases after Bart.

Lisa calms down after a while and the family all sit down to watch Big House Live in which Sideshow Bob explains that he had help from his spiritual advisor and now he wants to make peace with the world rather than kill a young boy. A picture of that spiritual advisor is shown on the screen and Lisa tells Bart that she recognizes him. Lisa and Bart start to look at copies of the show and Bart and Lisa discover that they almost always see Sideshow Bob's spirtual advisor and he has a pocket watch, and they realize he is a hypnotist. They pause the DVD and find that in some seconds they show the text, Vote for Bob. Be Like Bob. Lisa says that Bob wants everyone to be like him, so they use hypnosis and insert subliminal messages into the programme so anyone who sees it wants to kill him. Bart becomes really scared. Outside the door are all the residents of Springfield, who want to come play with Bart, but when they see Bart in the house, he escapes and they start chasing him. Bart manages to escape the crowd, then he decides to dress up as Sideshow Bob and tells the mob to leave Bart alone, However, they realize that it's really Bart and intend to kill him, but then the real Sideshow Bob comes with his hypnotist and gets all of Springfield to forget what happened.

Bob then says on the TV that he got them to stop when he realized that all life is sacred and he does not want an angry mob to kill a helpless child. Bart and Lisa tell the viewers that it's because he wants to kill Bart himself, which Bob acknowledges. Chief Wiggum comes and says that all reality shows have a twist: there was never any parole, that was just a way for the city to save some money and release some criminals who temporarily overcrowded the jail. But because they did not have to pay to feed him, they even managed to save a few bucks on the side for the Police Retirement and Buffalo wing. Sideshow Bob asks if he have no reason to change his ways, and is facing life in prison no matter what he does, which Wiggum confirms. Sideshow Bob starts to hunt down Bart at his home, and Bart asks Homer for help, but he can't leave the TV program that he is watching, which is a live broadcast of the hunt between Bart and Bob.
