The home movie sequence parody the opening sequence of The Wonder Years, including the use of Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help from My Friends"

• The episode opens with home movies showing Homer and Marge as young adults, similar to the opening sequence of The Wonder Years in its first five seasons, showing scenes with Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and his friends and family.
  • The music playing in the background is Joe Cocker's cover of "With a Little Help from My Friends", which is also the same as the opening sequence of The Wonder Years.

Goofs

• Janey appears in Mrs. Krabappel's classroom, but she is actually in Miss Hoover's second grade class.
• The school's sign is completely blue instead of yellow and blue.
• The cookies that Santa's Little Helper ate (which Martin made for Mrs. Krabappel) were "raisin roundies". Raisins are highly toxic to dogs.
