Wiki discussion is the place where major discussions and decisions can be made. Larger discussions will have their own pages but smaller discussions will go here.

Linking policy

There are tons of episode/Quotes pages (see Category:Quotes) where linking differs from other pages:

  • character names in front of lines are all links instead of first occurence
  • no other links occur in the text

Is this normal? --2F13 (talk) 06:26, October 6, 2018 (EDT)

It should be first instance of a link gets linked, rather than every instance. If every instance has a link, they should be removed. The Solar Dragon 07:41, October 6, 2018 (EDT)
Yes I think so. I checked again a few random pages and I see that there are much less overlinked one I thought first. It is AleWi who has a different concept with links. I do not want to destroy his work unwisely. I left him a notice about this discussion. --2F13 (talk) 09:52, October 6, 2018 (EDT)
If it helps ... When I work on Quotes pages, I generally link a character's name in its first occurrence in a block of dialogue. A good example is Lisa the Vegetarian/Quotes. This can result in every character name, or almost character every name, being linked if the quotes page consists largely of one-liners. For that reason, plus the fact that having too many links tends to make a Quotes page look cluttered (IMO), when I build a Quotes page I try to avoid one-liners and instead have at least three or four lines in each block of dialogue. This can result in the block division being a bit arbitrary, as I may end up having to split the blocks wherever it "feels" right instead of going by hard-and-fast rules. An example of a Quotes page where I had to take that approach is The Man of the House/Quotes. That's probably more than you wanted to know about the art of building Quotes pages, but I hope it's helpful. -- Mythigator (talk) 11:05, October 6, 2018 (EDT)

Okay. It seems I may uniform the quotes pages. Decade ago I had a bot editing the big Wikipedia. I think it will be useful again after same facelifting. Are there any special policies with bots here? I think I need a new account in first step. --2F13 (talk) 05:22, October 22, 2018 (EDT)

Abbot's first function is almost ready. I just have a question before it starts to work. There is no style guide for quotes so I don't know if the colon after name should be bold. (Krusty: … vs Krusty: …). Do you have any preference? If not, I make bold colons. --2F13 (talk) 02:47, October 23, 2018 (EDT)

Yep, colons should be bold. The Solar Dragon 06:37, October 23, 2018 (EDT)
I guess constructions like this should be also changed:
Instructor [to Bart]: Since you've already attended public school…
to
Instructor: [to Bart] Since you've already attended public school…
BTW. What about a new template called qf (quote from) that could do indentation, and typesetting in ine step? {{qf|Instructor}} --2F13 (talk) 12:20, October 23, 2018 (EDT)
If you could figure out a way to make an easy to use template, that'll be great. The Solar Dragon 12:58, October 23, 2018 (EDT)
Here you are:
Instructor: [to Bart] Since you've already attended public school…

Mythigator: [enthusiastically] I like it! -- Mythigator (talk) 14:48, November 3, 2018 (EDT)

Would you mind to have a sight on Abbot's first few edits? It does most of the tasks with Quotes pages. (A lot of things must be done manually even.) --2F13 (talk) 14:55, November 3, 2018 (EDT)

Wikisimpsons.css skin proposal

Sample page (full size)

Dear Wikisimpsons users,

For some days I've been using and improving a custom Wikisimpsons.css skin (shown in the picture). The wiki has been using the yellow theme for quite some time and I'm aware that color is part of its essence. I wanted, however, to try this new alternative which I found acceptable enough to make this proposal for an update of the wiki skin.

I would appreciate it if you could give it a try by copying this code and pasting it in User/wikisimpsons.css, and then surfing the wiki a little bit to check it out. You can return, of course, to the normal skin by deleting the pasted code and leaving a blank page.

The skin could be easily adapted to Christmas and Halloween themes by using the files Simp2 Christmas.png and Halloween bg.png.

What do you guys think of it? Any feedback is welcomed. Thanks for your time, --Simpsons88 (talk) 14:49, March 22, 2021 (EDT)

Honestly, I feel that the current design we have looks cleaner and more modern. The cloud background was a product of its time. And it feels like there's too much going on with it. Plus, we'd most likely have to update templates and other stuff to make it all work properly. The Solar Dragon 19:38, March 22, 2021 (EDT)
