- During the scene where Marge chases the school bus, Milhouse says, "It's like Speed 2! Only with a bus instead of a boat!", off-handedly summarizing the plot of the original film, Speed.

Goofs
- In the chase scene, Milhouse is sitting on the left side (our view), however after Otto reverses to pick up the new kid, Milhouse is on the right side.
- He could have easily switched seats.
- In Homer's grade school flashback where he is beating up a young Waylon Smithers, the musical instrument Barney is shown playing is a recorder, but the sound produced is that of a kazoo.
