Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital is a hospital located in Springfield, built as a memorial to Marvin Monroe, who at the time of the hospital's building, was presumed dead. Dr. Nick is the only doctor known to attend the hospital.

History

Following the shooting of Mr. Burns at the Springfield Town Hall, he was admitted to a hospital where he was declared 'dead'. He was then admitted to the Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital, where his condition was upgraded to 'alive'. During the police investigation, a DNA test was carried out, on an eyelash on Mr. Burns' blazer. This was later found to belong to Homer Simpson, and at the same time Burns woke up in the hospital, yelling "Homer Simpson!" Following this, the police raided the Simpson household, and found a gun in Homer's car with Homer's fingerprints on it, as well as a bullet loaded inside exactly the same as the one pulled out of Burns' body. Homer was then promptly arrested, but then escaped following an incident wherein Chief Wiggum was collecting food from a Krusty Burger, but the police van could not fit under the allowed vehicle height, so he drove onto a verge, and then caused the van to lean over onto its side, due to Wiggum's overwhelming weight on the side of the van he was collecting the food from.

Meanwhile, Waylon Smithers offered a $50,000 reward for Homer's capture, dead or alive; and Lisa was at the scene of the crime, trying to work out the actual assailant. With the help of Lisa's understanding of a pigeon's normally incomprehensible "coo", hearing it as "Clue", while it pointed to the sundial Burns collapsed on. Nearby, Lou was resting next to his motorcycle, when it came through on his radio that Simpson had been spotted at the Marvin Monroe Memorial Hospital. Lou and Lisa quickly proceeded to travel to the hospital, alongside several other police officers, and most of the inhabitants of the town. It soon turns into a race, Lisa wishing to arrive first, which she did, and proclaimed that Homer wouldn't hurt a fly. On entering the room, the town's residents find Homer shaking Burns vigorously, threatening him to never tell anyone again that he shot him. This happened earlier as well, when Dr. Nick left the room. Smithers, who had been misapprehended for the crime, appeared, and Mr. Burns asked him to name the 'beast' that was shaking him. After all this time of yelling out his name, Mr. Burns refuses to recognize Homer, which prompts Homer to yell out in despair, and to snatch a gun from Wiggum, and almost immediately the other officers present pointed a gun at him. Homer threatened Burns yet again, shouting at him, to tell everyone that he didn't shoot him, otherwise the obvious would happen. Mr. Burns laughed, stating that Homer didn't have the cranial capacity nor the right amount of fingers to use a gun. Burns then looked around the room, searching for his assailant, and he found her - Maggie Simpson.

After explaining what had actually happened, Burns demanded Maggie be arrested, but with Wiggum stating no jury would prosecute a baby - apart from those residing in Texas, and the town leaving, Marge exclaimed that Maggie could not have shot Burns on purpose, and that it must have been an accident...but the movement of Maggie's eyes told a different story, that neither Marge nor Burns saw.

Behind the Laughter

This marked the "death" (semi-retirement) of Dr. Monroe. The writers retired the character because the voice was too hard on Harry Shearer.
