Plot
Two frogs are watching from Frogs Heaven Bart and the other students disecting one of them's body, using it for his entertainment. Afterwards, Marge is reading Bart's grades, commenting how they're low and how this can ruin his future. She starts pacing at night and checks on Oogle if anyone talks about parenting online, and finds an article by an expert with a book to promote. She contacts her and organizes a meeting with parents at Springfield Elementary to find a way to cure low self-esteem and finds out they need to give trophies to him.
Lisa tries to find the significance on giving trophies to Bart when it only works if you earn them yourself, and Homer gets an idea about selling trophies in the garage. It is a success but he finds out Bart is glueing them together with bubble gum and tells his disappointment to Marge. Bart eavedrops them and sadly go for a walk and finds himself at the Retirement Castle where Grampa tells him his story with his father and grandfather. To prove to him he's a great kid he gives him a watch, the most prized possession of the family.
Lisa rebels against the trophies strategy at school and organizes another meeting with Dr. Fenton Pooltoy, using the G.R.I.T. method: Get up, Retry, I don't care if you're Tired, and Get Rid of Idiotic Trophies. Springfielders rebel against the trophies and Homer is forced to make a sale of the unsold trophies.
Bart shows up at the sale and shows off his watch, and goes around using his new found confidence thanks to the watch, changing his style, but the watch chain breaks on top of the mountain and he loses it. He tries to find it with Milhouse's help but to no use, as Marge gets rid of all trophies in the house, including Lisa's earned ones.
Grampa calls Bart to tell him of a interview for an article, featuring the heirloom that is going to be the next day, to Bart's desperation due to losing the heirloom. Homer goes to sell his trophies at the pawn shop and finds out that Milhouse brought the clock there, being angry at Bart for throwing rocks at him to find it, and buys it.
Homer wanted to brag about finding the watch, but when he approaches Bart's room, he hears him cry. To cheer him up, he tells him that the reason he was like this was cause of him and those that come before, his parents. Bart and Grampa makes the photos for the article together, before Bart breaks it when it ends up on the floor, and Grampa strangles him. At the end, Lisa and Homer watch Ralph become the first pick at the NBA draft.
