TV Show Information
|
Unsolved Mistaken Amputations is a TV series about mysterious accidental amputations.
History
The episode the Simpson family watched was set in Arles, France in 1888. Vincent van Gogh was getting his hair cut, but the barber accidentally cut his ear.
Production
The show appears to have questionable production values. The van Gogh episode is set in 1888, but contains an obvious anachronism as a modern hand-held hair dryer is visible on the barbershop's counter.
Behind the laughter
- The show is a parody of Unsolved Mysteries.
- van Gogh was missing the lower part of his left ear in real life. While there is a general consensus among historians that he cut it off himself, there are some who believe otherwise. Unsolved Mistaken Amputations is a tongue-in-cheek alternative explanation for what happened to his ear.
