- Spartahouse is a parody of the gladiator Spartacus.
- The "desolate ice world of Toth" is a parody of Hoth from Star Wars. A dead tauntaun is also seen.
- When Milhouse climbs into the alliance's refuge shafts, he exclaims "By the moons of Looneytooine!", a reference to both Looney Tunes and Tatooine from Star Wars.
- Milhouse imagines him as Aladdin and Apu as The Genie from the 1992 Disney film Aladdin.
