- When Bart points out that Homer works for Mr. Burns, Homer claims to be "just an innocent Stormtrooper on the Death Star, a reference to Star Wars. Bart then says that even the innocent ones "croaked" when the Death Star exploded.
- Lisa reads the book A Nobel Peace of My Mind by Al Gore.
- Mr. Burns says that the weather is as cold as one of Eleanor Roosevelt's kisses.
- Lisa reads a book about Frida Kahlo. Bart also throws a book about Joan of Arc into the fire.
