Trivia
- It is the first episode in the series of Treehouse of Horror episodes to have a zombie-related segment. The second is "The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms" in "Treehouse of Horror XIII".
- In segment 'Clown Without Pity' the Springfield children are dressed up in there Halloween costumes, Bart appears in 'A Clockwork Orange' costume dress a 'Alex DeLarge'
- This was also the first to have a Halloween-themed couch gag.
- This is one of several Simpsons episodes which are considered anthology episodes that features mini-stories.
- In the scene where Bart attempts to resurrect Snowball I, human zombies arise from around them, despite them being in the pet cementary.
Cultural References
- The first segment, 'Clown Without Pity' is an overall spoof of the Twilight Zone episode, Living Doll
- Homer sings the Oscar Mayer song only with his name in place of the O-S-C-A-R and the M-A-Y-E-R
- 'King Homer' is obviously a parody of King Kong
- Shirley Temple is seen dancing and singing before Homer eats her
- Ape Island is a spoof of Skull Island
- The title 'Dial Z for Zombies' is a parody of the title 'Dial M for Murder'
- When Bart raises the dead, he's wearing a Michael Jackson record on his head (ironically, it's the Thriller album)
- When Bart makes the dead raising chants, he utters Wal-mart
- Homer kills the following famous zombies: George Washington, Albert Einstein, and William Shakespeare
