Homer gets a call from Stockholm, telling him he has won the Nobel Prize. However, it turns out that the prize is for Professor John Frink. Lisa informs the Nobel Prize adjudicator that she'll inform Professor Frink and thanks him for honoring Springfield in Swedish, much to his delight ("Yumpin' Yiminy!").
Professor Frink is ecstatic about winning the coveted prize, which is probably for his invention of a hammer with a screwdriver on the other end ("It was a slow year"). However, he feels sad that his father, John Frink Sr., is not there to see his achievement. He explains to Lisa that his relationship with his father was strained, as he was a disappointment to his father, who was "one of those he-man scientists". The last time he saw his father alive was when they were supposed to go to sea to study sharks, but Frink Jr. dropped out. Disappointed in his son, Frink Sr. called him a disgrace and leaves, much to his son's grief.
He then shows her the preserved lifeless body of his father, which is missing a big chunk around the waist area. Apparently, testing out a new blood-based sun-tan lotion, during a shark study, wasn't the best idea. Frink Jr. decides to try and reanimate him. Using lightning, Frink Jr. and Lisa manage to shock Frink Sr. back to life. At first, Frink Sr. is happy to be alive, but is unhappy at the sight of a radiator and other machinery replacing his vital organs. Wanting a new spleen (to later vent on his son), he busts out of the lab, in search of "donors".
His first victim is Ned Flanders, who is jogging at night. Shoving his arm down his throat, he yanks out his vital organs. As he lays dying, Ned sees Heaven, shocked to see Confucius and Milton Berle there. Next, Frink Sr. likes Principal Skinner's posture and rips out his spine. Soon, Frink Sr. has harvested many body parts, like Snake's arm, Sideshow Mel's head, Krusty's neck. Lisa asks him to think about who he is really hurting - not the people he has killed, but his son. On the biggest day of his life, when he receives the Nobel Prize, his father (whom he resurrected) will not be there. Frink Sr. feels guilty and decides to fly to Stockholm.
At Stockholm (where hot nude ladies direct traffic), in the Swedish Auditorium, the "Nøbel Prize Ceremøny" is underway (Winners drink free). Dudley Herschbach and Jennifer Garner come on the stage to award the prizes. They announce John Frink Jr. as the winner of the Nobel Physics Prize. Frink accepts it, but feels disheartened that his father has become a marauding ghoul. He is pleasantly surprised to see his father walk up on stage and, accepting the Nobel Prize for Stupid, he asks for his son's forgiveness. Then he addresses the audiences, complimenting them on their big hearts... and big brains. Unable to restrain himself any further, he goes "smorgasbord on these poindexters", yanking their brains out and adding it to his own, unlocking many secrets of the universe. Marge tells Frink Jr. that he has to stop his father. After some calculations, Frink Jr. kicks his father hard in the groin. As his father dies, Frink Jr. promises to bring him back to life. Frink Sr. tells him that it is a bad idea and dies, telling him he is proud of him.
At the post-awards ceremony party, Lisa consoles Frink Jr. about winning the Nobel Prize and losing his father on the same day. But he shows her his new invention, the Soul-Catcher, a box in which he has stored his father's soul.
