Comic Story information
|
Get off the Bus! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #26.
Synopsis[edit]
- "Sideshow Bob tampers with the school bus so that if it goes over 55mph, an accident will happen. This leaves Bart as the only person who can stop the bus."
Plot[edit]
At Springfield Penitentiary, Sideshow Bob is cleaning up a school bus as part of his community service. Bob is shocked by how outdated the bus is and the lack of safety equipment. At school, Mrs. Krabappel gets the class ready for the trip to Mt. Splashmore. Bart says that he forgot his bathing suit, but brought his birthday suit instead. Krabappel takes Bart to Principal Skinner to be punished. Skinner was on the phone with Sideshow Bob, who was pleading with Skinner to get the buses refurbished. As he hangs up the phone, Mrs. Krabappel brings Bart into his office and Bart is forced to remain in Skinner's office instead of go on the field trip.
After the unsuccessful phone call, Bob goes back to cleaning the bus. When he finds the seat that Bart uses, he decides to tamper with the bus to eject Bart's seat when the bus comes to a stop. Otto then picks up the bus from the prison to take everyone on the field trip. As Bart is stuck in Skinner's office, Sideshow Bob calls the office again and leaves a message on the answering machine saying that if the bus gets to 55mph, then drops below it, the bus's next destination will be death. Upon hearing this, Bart calls the police and then breaks out of the office to chase after the bus to stop it.
After hitching a ride on the back of another car, Bart catches up with the school bus and tries to tell Otto to not go over 55mph. However, Otto can't hear properly and misunderstands before he goes over the limit. Bart then goes through a construction site and gets a life off Arnie Pye's helicopter before he crashes through the roof of the school bus. After telling Otto about the bomb, Milhouse gets upset at his magic 8 ball and throws it, with the ball hitting Otto and knocking him unconscious. Lisa takes over the driving as the bus speeds through town, crashing through people along the way. Eventually, Otto wakes up again and takes over driving once more. He then goes under a low bridge, sheering the roof of the bus off, and crashes into a car dealership mascot factory. In the factory, all the kids jump out of the bus and safely onto the mascots. The bus then crashes through the wall of Springfield Penitentiary and the ejector seat hits Sideshow Bob into the wall.
Three days later, Bart, Lisa, and Otto are given medals and free pizza as thanks for saving everyone. Skinner then reveals that he got a new safety measure for the school buses, an emergency ejector top so that the roof can come off. The top smashes Skinner's car, and Sideshow Bob is left annoyed.
