Big Monty is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #159.
Plot[edit]
Death is chasing Mr. Burns, who gets in trouble when Death's daughter goes after him. Just before Burns is about to be killed, he is revived and he wakes up. Mr. Burns realizes he was lucky to be revived and understands that the world will go on without him. Smithers tells him that he has created a computer with his personality that can take over when he dies, called "Big Monty". Mr. Burns is skeptical to the idea until Smithers tells him that the computer can control the activity just as Burns did when he was alive.
One week later, Homer has brought Santa's Little Helper to work, believing that it is "Bring your dog to to work day", but he misheard "daughter" as "dog". While Homer talks to Lenny and Carl, SLH escapes, so Homer starts chasing him. He finds "Big Monty" and decides to test it. As he starts the computer, Big Monty starts with his work. Lisa is going through her e-mail when she starts chatting with a guy who calls himself Monty. Lisa thinks he is funny, because he speaks in an old-fashioned way and doesn't know anything about the present. While Lisa chats with Monty during school break, she says that she is irritated at her brother and wishes he went to another school.
Seymour Skinner then gets a call from Swellingon School for Privileged Boys and finds out that Bart received a full scholarship to the school, and sends Bart there. When Lisa finds out she feels bad, because Bart will now have the education that she could only dream of. Monty then asks if she would like to change schools but she says she does not, because it would ruin Springfield's state funding. Monty decides to send over ten million euros to Springfield Elementary School. The next day day at the school, Lisa discovers that the school has got new books, computers and ponies. Lisa will also get a new teacher because Ms. Hoover is on a paid sabbatical to St. Croix, and the new teacher is J. K. Rowling. Lisa feels very happy now. Bart, however, is not happy with his new school, but after he finds out that most of the kids are stupid and are only there because they have rich parents, he begins to like the school.
After school, Lisa chats again with Monty, and tells him how unhappy she is with her family: they are poor, her dad drinks too much and the family eats meat. They get a check for a million dollars, Moe gets money to sell his bar and the animals are freed from slaughterhouses. Superintendent Chalmers wonders how the school got better so quickly, so Skinner tells him that they received money from an anonymous benefactor. The next day, Chalmers has decided that all students across the district will attend Springfield Elementary School, and as a result, the school becomes overcrowded.
Lisa, of course, tells Monty, who says he has billions of solutions to the problem. That afternoon, Mr. Burns is out shopping, but his check is not valid, so Smithers finds out that Mr. Burns' bank account is empty and he has given away all his money. This causes Mr. Burns to die, but Smithers revives him before the Grim Reaper can get him. Back home, Lisa tells Monty that life has not been so much better: Marge misses Bart, and Homer has a bar in the basement of William H. Macy. Monty realizes that his generosity has gone too far and asks to meet Lisa.
She discovers that Monty lives in the nuclear power plant and when she enters it, she finds out that Monty is a computer. While she talks with the computer, Burns comes to destroy the computer. Lisa explains to Mr. Burns that Monty is like him, but is stuck with a better side. He refuses to listen to her, and Smithers destroys the computer. Lisa writes in her diary that she still is happy: everything is as it was before, but she misses Monty. Moe moves back, Rowling quits teaching, Homer owes a million dollars and Bart is sent home. We then see Smithers at home, sitting at his computer and talking with Monty—he has a copy of the program at home.
