Plot[edit]
The Simpson family sit and watch the news where Kent Brockman interviews Lisa Simpson concerning a protest about the old duck pond which is planned to become a new parking structure. Kent also reports during the news that Mayor Quimby offered a contender a quick way to get a "Leg Up" during the Miss Springfield Pageant, where he was a judge. Quimby sees the news and understands that he will not win the re-election and talks to Reverend Lovejoy. In the church the next day, Quimby talks to the congregation about his plans to introduce Sunday blues laws to save the morality of Springfield. The audience cheers but Homer realizes that this means he can not drink on Sundays and volunteers as a candidate for mayoral post. He gets help by hiring Moe as his campaign manager, but later changes him to Fat Tony. Homer promises lots of things and promises Lisa to save the duck pond if he gets elected.
Homer makes a speech to a large audience at the duck pond while the Mayor gives a speech for an equally large congregation outside the church. After Homer's speech destroyed large parts of the duck pound, Lisa is saddened for what Homer did. Homer decides to stop the cooperating with Fat Tony, after it turned out that he owns the land for the duck pond. Homer hits him with the Mayor and realizes that he works for both. Lisa becomes his new campaign manager and he becomes popular. After the voting is complete, it turns out that there were equal votes for Simpson and Quimby. Homer decides to make a deal with Quimby and let him become mayor if he promises that there will be no Sunday blues laws and the duck pond be saved. Neither Lovejoy or Fat Tony is excited about the decision, but everyone else in the town seems to be happy.
