Les Miserables is a novel by Victor Hugo.

History

When Bart is discovered attempting to steal a pie from the window sill, one of the guards at Burns' manor is reading Les Misérables. Lisa also keeps a book on a bookshelf, next to of Allen Ginsberg's work, Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road, and a collection of poems by Edgar Allan Poe.[1]
