In the Swim is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #134.
Plot[edit]
Mr. Burns has organized a boat cruise for employees and their families. While on the trip, Lisa discovers that Mr. Burns only arranged the party to dump nuclear waste into the Springfield Channel, but she can not do anything about it as Burns said that everyone on the boat is now an accomplice. Burns continues to dump waste but ends up falling overboard with Carl. After Smithers and Lenny failed to save him, Homer jumps into the lake and manages to save them. Back home, over dinner, Lisa tells Homer that he only managed to save them because he's fat and he should eat more vegetables and healthy food, but he decides instead, with Bart and Barney, that the household now bans vegetables.
Homer is at work and Mr. Burns has decided to give him a reward for saving his life, the reward being that he will swim through the Springfield Channel and, despite not wanting to do it, Homer is forced to accept the proposal. Meanwhile, it is time for lunch at the school, but Lisa has just got eggs and cheese from Marge and the school has no vegetables in the cafeteria, so she leaves school to find something to eat. Lisa meets Gil, dressed up like to a carrot mascot, who gives her a flyer for Seth and Munchie's Organic Vegetable Patch, while Seth and Munchie dismiss him because he is taking vegetables from their crop. They offer Lisa the job and she accepts it. Homer will now swim the channel, while Jesse releases an orca back into the wild from captivity. Homer begins to swim and soon meets and speaks to the whale, that recognizes Homer, who teased him for 30 years, and he starts attacking Homer, who wants to stop swimming but can't as Burns will fire him.
Lisa has started her new job but quickly is thrown into a garbage can by the mascots from the Krusty Burger, where they consider that she have taken over their areas. She is determined not to give up, but no one wants to come near her as she smells so bad. Homer is close to the target when the whale starts to attack him again, prompting Marge to ask Burns to let Homer pull out, but he refuses. Lisa meets the mascots again and they start to bully her. Lisa becomes enraged and takes off her mascot costume, and begins to beat up the other mascots, which is easy since they have costumes on. Meanwhile Lisa's mascot costume began to roll down towards the river and it landed in the water> The orca starts to chew it, which allows Homer to continue to swim towards the target. Homer is celebrating his success when the orca hunts him and the entire audience, having grown human legs due to the nuclear waster in the water. The Simpsons are eating dinner again. Bart asks what happened after the orcas started hunting, but Marge announces that it is only important that everything is fine and as a carrot (Lisa's mascot clothing) rescued the family, they have started eating vegetables again, but Lisa is still sad as the rest of the family has decided that she should wear the costume at the dinner.
