The Mississippi River is a river in the USA.
History
Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn rafted down the river to escape from their town. Eventually, the townspeople caught up to them at the bottom of the river.[1]
The Mississippi has been used as a dividing line between the eastern and western halves of America since the Louisiana Purchase although people are uncertain which side Springfield is on. Lurleen Lumpkin told her father, "Oh, Daddy, you made me the happiest girl on whichever side of the Mississippi this is."[2] Lisa was accepted to "the best camp this side of the Mississippi" which prompted slightly abashed Homer to ask, "Which side are we again?" while Lisa just brushed past his question.[3]
