The Riddle of the Mystery's Enigma is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #242.
Synopsis[edit]
- When The Riddle of the Mystery's Enigma, the last bookstore in Springfield, is closing down and being demolished, Lisa petitions Mayor Quimby to keep the shop open by telling three mystery stories.
Lisa is on the news outside The Riddle of the Mystery's Enigma where she tells Kent Brockman that there's been a murder, before she clarifies that the city is killing local businesses like the mystery bookstore they are standing outside of. Lisa points out that once the bookstore is closed down, the only one left would be Ruff Drafts, a shop that sells rubber books as chew toys for dogs. Brockman asks Mayor Quimby for his input, and Quimby tells him that they're planning on building a much-needed parking lot in its place. Mystery Man then comes out of the store and tells Lisa that the real mystery is how he stayed open for so long. Lisa mistakes Mystery Man for Comic Book Guy, but Mystery Man tells her that he's Comic Book Guy's cousin. Lisa asks Quimby for a chance to prove that mysteries are important, and Quimby lets her do so by telling three short stories.
After Lisa has finished telling her stories, she is surprised to find that the store was knocked down by a wrecking ball while she was telling them. Lisa asks Mystery Man what he will do now, and Mystery Man says that he still has the comic book store. Lisa is shocked and asks if he is Comic Book Guy and Mystery Man, but Mystery Man only responds by saying "that's the mystery... man!" Lisa waits for Homer to come and pick her up but notices him on the wrecking ball that destroyed the store. Homer tells Lisa to call Marge and tell her that he got stuck on a wrecking ball again.
