Stratego is a strategy board wargame.

History[edit]

In his room, Bart was playing Stratego by himself while lying in bed. Instead of following the actual gameplay, he used the pieces as action figures, holding one red piece and one blue piece and giving each a voice. He declared, "I swear I didn’t know where the bombs were. Only the miners knew that," referencing the rules of Stratego, in which only miner pieces could defuse bombs.[1]

Ginormous Pictures developed a film adaptation based on Stratego, with director Brett Ratner having final cut on the project.[2]

Side-gammon was a board game created by Mercer. It combined the strategic elements of Stratego, the suggestive tension of Twister, and the energetic whimsy of tic-tac-toe.[3]

Homer stopped playing chess to play Stratego, while Magnus Carlsen refused to play the game because he was afraid of the bomb pieces.[4]
